What are the responsibilities and job description for the Principal Engineer (Mechanical/Electrical) position at County of Monmouth?
Under the general direction of a higher level supervisory official, takes the lead and performs highly responsible field and office engineering work involved in the design, construction, review, inspection, and maintenance of electrical, HVAC, plumbing and fire protection systems in County government buildings, may supervise a staff conducting field and office engineering work as required; does other related work.
EXAMPLES OF WORK:
• Preparation of mechanical and/or electrical drawings and specifications.
• Review of architectural, mechanical and/or electrical designs and construction documents.
• Preparation of cost estimates for design and construction.
• Assembles and compiles field notes.
• Conducts office and field surveys, inspections, investigations, and tests involved with mechanical and electrical engineering projects.
• Prepares requisitions for equipment, materials, and supplies.
• Reviews and makes bid analysis recommendations.
• Prepares and/or supervises the preparation of clear, technically sound, accurate and informative mechanical, electrical, and/or other related reports containing findings, conclusions, and recommendations.
• Takes the lead on the administration of facility related capital improvement projects; from the preparation of documentation utilized to retain a design professional through the final close-out of the construction contractor’s contract.
• Maintains engineering and related records and files.
• Prepares as-built plans and other reports.
• Prepares detailed correspondence.
• Utilizes computer applications in engineering problem-solving.
REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum five (5) years of experience in electrical or mechanical engineering work.
LICENSE:
Appointees will be required to possess a driver’s license valid in New Jersey.
