This position is funded by the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (also referred to as the WIC Program), located within the local health department. This program works directly with pregnant, newly postpartum and breastfeeding women, infants and children up to five years of age. The Nutritionist is directly responsible for conducting nutritional interviews and assessments, providing education and prescribing food packages to each WIC participant.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Job duties include conducting interviews and reviewing clinical data, dietary information, and medical histories; developing and documenting nutritional care plans; providing nutritional counseling; creating and prescribing appropriate food packages for WIC participants; referring clients to other resources and community services; participating in workshops and continuing education trainings; and reviewing professional publications to stay current on nutrition and public health issues. Duties may also include other related assignments as determined by management. Employee will receive one-on-one training for this position including learning the computer software, proper nutritional interviewing and assessment techniques, documentation practices and requirements, and the process used for creating and prescribing individual food packages. Employee will be provided their own office and work independently most of the time. Normal work hours are Monday – Thursday 7:30am to 5:30pm, Friday 8:00am to 12:00pm. This position is supervised by the WIC Program Director.
