Nevada County is seeking a Permit Processing Technician to work in the Environmental Health Department of the Community Development Agency. This position will play a vital role in providing excellent customer service to the community. The ideal candidate has excellent communication skills, demonstrates great attention to detail, is well organized, self-directed, and professional. This candidate will review, process, and approve permits, that do not require professional-level certification, perform field inspections, data entry, supporting and assisting in project assignments, serving as a customer service representative, and performing related work as required.
Desired Knowledge includes :
- Basic principles and functions of the Environmental Health Department and other Departments within the Community Development Agency.
- Techniques for gathering, compiling, and presenting data in visual form.
- Local land use ordinance, zoning, and agency policies.
- Basic principles of chemistry, biology, and environmental geology.

The Permit Processing Technician will handle a wide variety of assignments and situations that will include the preparation of documents and charts and the ability to assist in the review and approval of permits, that do not require professional-level certification, and field work. This individual should be comfortable handling a wide variety of customers and be able to respond to questions on local land use ordinances, State regulations, and agency policies. This position is public facing and will require someone with clear communication skills and solid customer service experience.
