Lunch at the Library - Student Intern (PAID)

• Must be at least 14 years old with the ability to secure a work permit and enrolled in high school with guardian-signed approval.
• If 18 years old, must consent to fingerprinting and be enrolled in the 2024-2025 school year.

Join the Nevada County Library team as a Student Intern this summer--an outstanding opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a vibrant community setting! 

This temporary position will report directly to the Youth Librarian and Branch Manager. This role is ideal for ambitious students eager to contribute to our outstanding library system and make a positive impact on our community.

Candidates selected for the position will perform a range of duties from basic activities to those requiring higher skill levels to improve department operations. This role involves physical activities such as standing, walking, bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, reaching, and lifting objects up to 25 pounds. Assist with clerical and technical tasks, work with librarians to support the summer reading and the Lunch at the Library programs:

• Assisting with youth programs, curating and maintaining collection displays, and supporting the summer reading program by signing kids up for the reading challenge.
• Setting up and breaking down the free Lunch at the Library program.
• Assisting staff and patrons with summer learning arts and crafts and STEAM activities; recording patron attendance for program statistics.
• Supporting Youth Services staff in keeping the Youth areas accessible and engaging through tidying up and shelving books, along with other related library tasks.
• Providing information to patrons about library programs and assisting with programming for children, including setup, attendance management, and cleanup.
• Understanding and explaining library rules and procedures.

• Student interns will be expected to communicate scheduling needs clearly.

• Ideal candidates should be enthusiastic about the Library and working collaboratively in a team setting. 
• Bilingual (Spanish/English) communication skills are highly desirable.
