Caseworker 1 is an entry-level social service position in the Behavioral Health/Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (BH/IDS) Agency, highly supervised.
The primary responsibilities of this role include:
- Obtaining social information for individuals with intellectual and developmental delays to develop treatment plans and enroll them in Behavioral Health & Intellectual/Developmental Services under the supervision of a Supports Coordinator Supervisor.
- Assisting consumers in filing applications for Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Department of Public Welfare (DPW), and Veterans Administration (VA) benefits.
- Participating in the development of Individual Service Plans outlining goals in areas such as residential day programming, socialization, medical, fiscal, and adaptive behavior for each consumer. Monitoring Residential and Day Program providers to ensure implementation of stated Individual Program Plan services.
- Maintaining files, records, and other documentation necessary for consumer care continuity and developing life management plans. Serving as an advocate for consumers to ensure approval of the most appropriate treatment.
- Coordinating and directing meetings to assess consumers' progress in charted areas.
- Accessing supportive services for IDS clients residing in the community, including budgeting, shopping, leisure activities, social skills, personal hygiene, and individual counseling for adjustment to community life.
- Attending resident reviews at State Centers, Residential Programs, Vocational Rehabilitation Facilities, and other service providers to ensure adequate service levels and program implementation for each client.
- Providing crisis intervention and emergency services as coordinated by the supervisor.
- Providing technical assistance to service providers on maintaining compliance with 2176 Community Waiver Regulations and Person Family Direct Supports Waiver.
- Performing all other duties related to the position not specified above.
Requirements:
- A current score on file for the Caseworker 1 job title with the State Civil Service Commission.
- A bachelor's degree with at least 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences.
- Two years of experience as a County Social Service Aide 3 and two years of college-level coursework with at least 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social services.
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training with 12 college credits in sociology, social welfare, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social services and one year of experience as a County Social Services Aide 3 or similar position performing paraprofessional case management functions.
- A combination of 12 college credits in sociology, social work, psychology, gerontology, criminal justice, or other related social sciences and two years of professional experience in developmental disabilities, special education, mental health, counseling psychology, school psychology, social work, or health and rehabilitative services.
