What are the responsibilities and job description for the Grounds Maintenance Technician I - Public Works position at County of Orange, VA?
Role Overview
Performs minor skilled and unskilled grounds and general maintenance work at county facilities and other county property. This position is under the supervision of the Facilities and Grounds Manager.
Essential Functions
- Performs maintenance and preparatory work on county owned grounds to include mowing, mulching, and basic landscaping duties.
- Performs minor repairs/improvements and maintains the cleanliness and orderliness of grounds to include grass, shrubs, and trees, and facility structures to include rest rooms, parking lots, concession stand, and pavilion.
- Operates and performs minor maintenance on tractors, mowers, or other light landscaping equipment.
- Operates and performs minor repairs on hand-held power and gardening tools.
- Provides responsive, high-quality service to other County employees and departments, representatives of outside agencies, and members of the public by providing accurate, complete, and up-to-date information, in a courteous, efficient, and timely manner.
- Performs related tasks as required.
- Is added to the On-call schedule after 6-month review.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of methods and techniques of landscaping ; Knowledge of maintenance and repair techniques regarding structures and facilities; Must be able to operate and maintain power tools and equipment; Must be able to use hand tools for performing semi-skilled maintenance work for park structures and fields.
Education and Experience
Education, training, and/or experience that demonstrates possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed above. Previous experience performing structural and grounds maintenance for public works is highly desirable. High school diploma or GED and minimal experience in a public works setting or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Physical Requirements
This work requires frequent sitting, walking, standing, bending and twisting of neck, bending and twisting of waist, squatting, climbing, kneeling, crawling, repetitive use of hands including simple and power grasping and fine manipulation, pushing and pulling, and reaching above shoulder level. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, and occasionally 70 pounds with assistance.
Special Requirements
Possession of an appropriate driver's license valid in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
