This position provides moderately complex to advanced administrative support for various functions of the assigned department(s). provide clerical support to the deputies, investigators, and ranked staff of the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office in preparation of reports, contacts with the citizens of Orangeburg County, and internal communications. Employees in this class generally perform duties as primary support for a department head or other professional personnel, and function with considerable Independence In conducting and completing assigned tasks. Position provides department specific Information to the public, other Health Care District.
This class works under close supervision according to set procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary.
Performs other clerical duties as necessary.
Supervisory Functions:
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Associate’s degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year College or technical school in accounting or business and two to three years related experience and/or training. Two to three years’ experience in a secretarial field preferred.

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate ration, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

- Answers Incoming phone calls.
- Composes, types, and mails documents.
- Assist the Captain with various duties.
- Establishes, organizes, and maintains central filing system.
- Processes incoming mail by opening, sorting, and distributing it to the appropriate personnel.
- Schedules appointments and meetings and makes corresponding meeting room arrangements
- Communicate with various individuals and groups to exchange and/or provide information regarding office activities and procedures.
- Performs various administrative duties including assisting in budget preparation, typing and maintaining budget accounts, and purchasing all office supplies.
- Prepares and processes, memorandums, and manuals.
- Provides customer service to visitors by analyzing their request and directing them to the appropriate office.
- Assist individuals who contact the Sheriff’s Office by directly assisting the citizen or routing the call to the appropriate investigator or officer.
- Disseminate reports to citizens as needed.
- Compile and track crime statistics based on cases assigned to investigators.
- Retrieve criminal histories.
- Assist with the front desk as needed.
- Track and inform officers of all court appearances related to their assigned cases.
- Completes daily attendance sheet.
- Maintains a list of supplies for office and orders additional supplies as necessary.
- Supports clerical functions at Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office main office and Central Investigations Division and all Sheriff’s Office facilities as needed.
- Collect all money for service fees and enter into computer system.
- Count, verify, document, bank deposits.
- Assist in submitting confidential information and reports to various requesting agencies.
- Receives, reviews, and/or files information such as status reports, contracts, charts, graphs.
- Performs other duties and related work as instructed and assigned.
