What are the responsibilities and job description for the UTILTIES SYSTEMS OPERATOR-IN-TRAINING position at County of Orangeburg?
The purpose of this job is to assist in the treatment of raw wastewater, distribution of treated drinking water, and maintenance of water distribution system.
Duties and Responsibilities
The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary.
Maintaining a neat and clean work area including lime machines, chemical feeders, and laboratory areas.
Maintaining and wearing proper safety apparel.
Recognizing equipment failure or treatment deficiencies and taking appropriate corrective action utilizing sound judgment.
Attending training courses, when available, during off duty hours or by completing correspondence courses or other prerequisite courses to be eligible for examination by the State of South Carolina for required certification.
Working varying shifts, hours and locations to become trained in all aspects of plant operations.
Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent.
Requires two (2) years of on the job training; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Physical Demands:
Performs light to medium work that involves walking or standing virtually all of the time and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or considerable skill, adeptness and speed in the use of the fingers, hands or limbs in tasks involving close tolerances or limits of accuracy.
Unavoidable Hazards (Work Environment):
Extreme heat and/or cold; Wet or humid conditions.
Extreme noise levels, Animals/wildlife.
Vibration; Fumes and/or noxious odors.
Traffic; Moving machinery.
Special Certifications and Licenses:
