Description
The Sentencing to Service (STS) Program provides supervision of Adult/Juvenile Court ordered work crews. The purpose of this position is to supervise a Sentencing to Service (STS) work crew. The Crew Leader is required to coach and work along with the crew members in accomplishing various maintenance tasks at various County owned facilities/sites. This position includes training and leading crew members, coordination, planning and organization of projects, maintaining and accounting for equipment, interact with local and state units of government and non-profit agencies and report writing.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

- Crew Leader must review all referral materials to be sure the offender/inmate meets the program criteria and ensure that all referral materials are on file and all required paperwork is in place before offender/inmate begins work on the crew.
- Provides on-site supervision of Sentence to Service work crews consisting of 1 - 6 workers. Provides skills training and monitors the quality and quantity of work performed. Skills training to be defined as general building and grounds maintenance, including painting, carpentry, cement work and general maintenance knowledge.
- Coordinates, plans and organizes projects and supervises the offenders/inmates to ensure maximum productivity, so that projects are completed efficiently, safely and with a high level of quality that meets court ordered obligations and provides a positive work experience.
- Maintains accurate and up-to-date records evaluating work progress and general program activities of the crew members. Turns these records in to the Sheriff.
- Operates all types of power tools and equipment, assures proper maintenance, storage and repair, and accounts for inventory of equipment.
- Operates County vehicles and equipment in transporting crew members from jail to work sites. Requires Class C Driver's License.
- Acts as a partner with the local correctional agencies, including courts, probation officers, law enforcement, etc. to ensure services are provided, courts are informed of status of offender referred to the program, program issues and philosophy are effectively communicated.
- Observes prescribed safety and county policies in the performance of job duties, utilizes appropriate protective clothing, materials and equipment in maintaining safe and sanitary conditions in the work place.
- Performs other related work assignments as directed or as it becomes apparent in the course of fulfilling the job responsibilities and program requirements.

Qualifications
EDUCATION
High school diploma or equivalent (GED); training/experience in, general building construction and grounds maintenance.
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
At least 3 years of experience, which provides the following skills and abilities:
- Must possess supervisory skills with the ability to communicate in group setting.
- Attend Department of Corrections Crew Leaders Training Annually.
- Must be First Aid and CPR certified or be able to obtain certification
- Experience in dealing with conflict and problem resolution.
- Valid Minnesota Class C Driver's License required.
- Knowledge of carpentry, cement work and general repair.
- Ability to understand written and oral directions and instructions.
- Ability to perform manual tasks requiring coordination, dexterity and strength adequate to lift and move objects of bulk and weight up to 100 pounds.
- Ability to work indoors and out, and under conditions of adverse weather and temperature.
- Ability to deal effectively with persons of various ages, gender and culture.
- Working ability to perform tasks involving prolonged standing, pushing, pulling, climbing and stooping.
- Ability to work independently performing routine tasks.
- Ability and knowledge to operate maintenance equipment and tools.

Salary : $24 - $34
