Description
Redwood County Highway Department is hiring Temporary/Seasonal snowplow equipment operators to cover job duties for full-time staff on general or medical leave or extended operations based on needs and conditions. Selected individuals will be placed on a call-out list based on experience to supplement the full-time staff, as needed. The purpose of the position in this classification is to respond in a timely manner (within 30 minutes) to snow events and assisting in completing effective and safe snow removal throughout Redwood County. The position is required to perform all tasks in an effective, complete, and professional manner and is responsible for adhering to all policies and values of Redwood County while at work.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Performs snowplowing, ice control (sanding), and other miscellaneous duties on County roads based on needs.
- Operates snowplow and/or road grader to remove ice and snow from roads and assigned areas, which require early morning starts, extended hours, and weekend duty including holidays.
- Ensure that roads under the responsibility of this position are adequately and safely plowed when required.
- Performs routine equipment maintenance/repair tasks such as changing vehicle fluids, fueling, greasing, painting, etc.
- Able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Reports all incidents involving equipments functioning to Supervisor(s)
- Maintains a neat and orderly work area at all times.
- Always operates all equipment in a safe manner, following all approved safety procedures. Inspects equipment on a regularly scheduled basis.
- Maintains an effective working relationship with department employees.
- Access to Not Public Data The incumbent may encounter not public data in the course of these duties. Any access to not public data should be strictly limited to accessing the data that are necessary to fulfill the employment responsibility. While data are being accessed, the incumbent should take reasonable measures to ensure the not public data are not accessed by individuals without a work reason. Once the work reason to access the data is reasonably finished, the incumbent must properly store the not public data according to the provisions of the Minnesota Government Data Practices Act (Minnesota Statutes, Chapter 13).

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs other work-related duties as required.
- If a new work assignment requires access to not public data, the incumbent is permitted to access not public data for the work assignment purposes only. Any access to not public data must be strictly limited to the data necessary to complete the work assignment and after the assignment is completed, the employees work assignment no longer requires access.
Qualifications
EDUCATION:
Must be 18 years of age. A high school diploma or equivalent, with prior responsible work experience, is required. Must possess a valid CDL.
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
At least two years of recent related truck and equipment operating experience, which includes the following skills and abilities:
- Ability to explain, demonstrate, and clarify to others within established policies, procedures, and standards, as well as the ability to follow specific instructions and respond to requests from others.
- Ability to operate various communication devices including telephone and two-way radios.
- Ability to communicate effectively with the department and other County personnel as well as the general public.
