The Riverside University Health System - Medical Center is seeking a Licensed Vocational Nurse to join our team with the Research, Projects, and Administration Department.This position DOES NOT involve assisting with direct patient care. The incumbent will be responsible for abstracting surgery-related data, reviewing code surgical procedures, and performing compliance auditing. The most competitive candidates will have at least one year of experience working as a Licensed Vocational Nurse in a surgical patient care setting. In addition, the incumbent must meet the minimum qualifications listed below.Minimum Qualifications :
- Experience in clinical chart review, data abstraction, and data entry.
- Proficiency in computer and internet use, with required experience in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel).
- Experience with Epic (EHR) is highly desirable.
- Knowledge and experience in quality improvement or patient safety are preferred.

- Collect perioperative data components utilizing the hospital medical record systems.
- Identify surgical patients for inclusion in the program by use of inclusion / exclusion criteria and protocols.
- Accurately and timely enter data into the program's database while meeting the caseload accrual requirement protocol.
- Demonstrate applicability of the methodology and the reliability of definitions utilized by reviewers within the program.
- Indentify streamlining and process improvement opportunities in the data collection process.
- Demonstrate appropiate utilization of resources necessary to obtain valid, reliable data for entry into the program.
- Utilize software applications for data collection and analysis.
- Contact patients and / or families postoperatively to identify possible occurrences associated with surgical procedures performed.
- Review weekly site accrual reports on the database and respond to accrual report alerts.
- Identify problem areas associated with patient care by compiling, analyzing and summarizing information gathered from relevant resources.
- Communicate effectively with multiple disciplines and departments involved in the care of the EGS patient.
- Participate in commitee meetings; prepare and maintain documents and files to ensure records are accurate and complete.
- Serve as an educational resource regarding program information or date for internal and external stakeholders.
- Participate in formal and informai educational and training activities.Experience : At least one year of successful experience as a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN), including experience in a surgical patient care setting. Skills : Proven expertise in clinical chart review and data abstraction. Proficiency in computer and internet use, with required experience in Microsoft Word and Excel. Knowledge of : Current principles, techniques and procedures used in vocational nursing within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act for vocational nursing; medical terminology, acute care procedures and equipment; medication administration and any policies and procedures of the setting assigned.Ability to : Skillfully perform the full range of vocational nursing duties and responsibilities within the scope of the Nurse Practice Act for vocational nursing; learn and follow policies and procedures for the setting assigned; establish and maintain effective working relationships with physicians, mid-level providers, registered nurses, patients, and co-workers; complete and maintain reports and patient records; make observations of situations accurately and report them so effective action can be taken according to rules of documentation and policies and procedures.Other Requirements : License : Possession of a valid, California Vocational Nurse's License issued by the California Board of Vocational Nurse and Psychiatric Technician Examiners.Possession of a valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association for professional healthcare providers.A valid California Driver's License may be required. Bilingual Testing : The Human Resources Department will coordinate a Bilingual (Spanish) Non-Proctored Assessment.What's Next?
