The Airport Planner has the responsibility to develop or direct the development of comprehensive plans and programs for utilization of land and physical facilities by the Department of Airports; and to ensure that objectives and goals specified for such plans and programs are accomplished in accordance with prescribed priorities, time limitations, and funding conditions.Knowledge of
  • principles, practices and techniques of airport planning and construction and local, state, and federal laws and regulations relating to airport development, construction and operation
  • trends and statistics affecting airport planning
  • architectural design, drafting and detailing
  • construction and building materials
  • principles of supervision
  • principles and techniques of grant and contract preparation and administration
Ability to
  • collect, analyze, interpret, and evaluate data relating to planning for airport development and airspace capacity
  • read and interpret construction plans and specifications
  • communicate effectively in writing and orally with private and public officials and consultants
  • prepare comprehensive reports and presentations on airport planning, construction and development issues
  • supervise others
  • prepare and administer contracts, budgets, and grants
Minimum Qualifications

1.   Two years experience in the class of Airport Planner in Sacramento County service.
OR
2.   Five years experience in airport planning, or in construction planning and  
management, pertaining to the use of land, buildings, structures or other site improvements.

NOTE: Education   from   an   accredited   college   or   university   with   major   course   
work   in transportation   management, urban   and   regional   planning, civil   engineering,  
or architectural or environmental design, or in a field directly related to the Knowledges and 
Abilities above, may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis up to a 
maximum of two years; 30 semester units (45 quarter units) equal one year experience.

Note: If the word “experience” is referenced in the minimum qualifications, it means full-time paid experience unless the minimum qualification states that volunteer experience is acceptable.   Part-time paid experience may be accumulated and pro-rated to meet the total experience requirements.

Probationary Period
The probationary period for this classification is six (6) months.

FORMULA RATE EXAMINATION (Weighted 100%)
 
All candidates meeting the minimum qualifications by the cut-off date will have their Supplemental Questionnaire scored in the Formula Rate Examination.
 
This examination will evaluate the relevance, level, recency, progression and quality of candidate's education, training and experience. The candidate's application or other materials will not be included in this examination. Therefore, the candidate's responses to the supplemental questionnaire should be thorough, detailed and complete. The score from the Formula Rate Examination will determine the ranking on the eligible/employment list for this job.
 
All candidates competing in the testing process will receive written notice of their examination results by email. Notices can also be accessed in their governmentjobs.com inbox. Applicants achieving a passing score will be placed on the eligible list in rank order. The rank is determined by the test score attained from the examination.
