DESCRIPTION: Under direction, performs routine work in caring for and maintaining park grounds, athletic fields/turf and related equipment, recreational areas, facility grounds, and other landscaped and lawn areas; performs other related duties as required.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Work with inmates on exterior work details.
- Knowledge of the procedures, materials, tools and equipment used to care for and maintain grounds after a period of training.
- Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions applicable to grounds keeping and maintenance work.
- Ability to keep grounds visually appealing: cut grass, rake leaves, weed, keep free of debris and dangerous obstructions.
- Ability to operate equipment/machinery used in maintaining grounds or turf.
- Ability to perform preventive maintenance on equipment and tools.
- Ability to perform a variety of manual labor tasks.
- Ability to spray for weeds and insects using unrestricted chemicals.
- Ability to plant and care for flowers, trees, and shrubs.
- Ability to sanitize and clean restrooms.
- Ability to mark athletic fields and care for equipment, materials, and supplies.
- Ability to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
LICENSE:
- Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
- Appointees may be required to possess a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and applicable endorsements for the class and type of vehicle being operated. The responsibility for ensuring that appointees possess the required motor vehicle license and applicable endorsement rests with the Appointing Authority.
- NOTE: Appointees may be required to obtain a Pesticide Applicator Certification issued by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection.
RATE: $19.56 per hour
HOURS: Monday – Friday, 6:00am – 2:30pm (7:00am – 3:30pm starting October 1st)
