The Job

The Economic Development Department (EDD) is recruiting for an Economic Development Public Service Employee (PSE)

  • who is responsible for supporting the programs and staff of the Economic Development Department. The incumbent is responsible for coordinating the department's business retention and expansion program by working extensively with County departments, cities, and other business partners.

Duties include but are not limited to :

  • Conducting site searches, site tours, and special studies including permitting assistance, market and industry research and analysis
  • Maintaining business information files and responding to inquiries; assisting in coordinating business conferences and trade shows
  • Representing the County at various corporate real estate events, trade shows, or related events including making presentations as needed
  • Conducting research, organizing data, compiling reports, maintaining project resource files and databases
  • Assisting County staff in developing automated financial statements and spreadsheets

    Pre-Employment Process : Applicants must successfully pass a background check, which includes fingerprints and a medical exam.

    Travel : Travel throughout the County may be required and employees will be required to make provisions for such transportation.

    Sponsorship : San Bernardino County is not able to consider candidates who will require visa sponsorship at the time of application or in the future.

    Public Service Employee (PSE) : Public Service Employees are considered at-will, temporary positions. PSEs do not gain regular status and assignments will not exceed 12 months.

    Minimum Requirements

    Applicants must meet the education requirement and one of the following experience options :

    Education :

    Five (5) semester (7.5 quarter) units of completed college coursework from an accredited college or university in business or public administration, economics, finance, marketing, or a closely related field. Transcripts (unofficial are acceptable) MUST be submitted with the application if the applicant does not possess a completed associate's degree (or higher) in one of the qualifying fields of study.

    Experience :

    Option A : One (1) year of experience with a private organization, government agency, or non-profit organization with responsibility for assisting organizations or businesses with related economic development services.

    Option B : One (1) year of experience interpreting, applying, and explaining government regulations, policies, and procedures related to economic development, business development, marketing, public relations, or commercial / industrial real estate.

    Desired Qualifications

    The ideal candidate will exemplify first-rate skills in organization, time management, written and verbal communication, interpersonal and customer service skills demonstrating competence in computer, phone, and social media. Experience in market and industry research and analysis is highly desired.
