What are the responsibilities and job description for the Physical or Occupational Therapist I/II - CCS - Full-time/Part-time position at County of San Luis Obispo?
Classes in this series, under medical direction, organize, conduct and supervise physical or occupational therapy treatments and programs in a clinic setting, May assist in the supervision and coordination of a staff of physical and occupational therapists at one or more California Children's Services (CCS) Medical Therapy Units (MTU); and do other related work as required.
Work Location -- May be assigned to any of the County's MTU locations -- Oceano, SLO, Atascadero, Paso Robles. Must be able to work at any MTU location as a temporary or permanent work location.
Classification Characteristics:
This classification is used to employ persons who provide physical or occupational therapy treatment for patients in a clinic or in a program for children with physical disabilities. Assignments will vary based upon the option used in recruiting and hiring and the patient group involved.
Persons employed under the Physical Therapy option will, in addition to the Typical Tasks, be involved in directing and assisting patients in various exercises and activities for muscle reeducation, gait, transfer and prosthetic training, and instructing patients and care providers in the care and use of wheelchairs, braces, crutches, canes and prosthetic devices.
Persons employed under the Occupational Therapy option will, in addition to the Typical Tasks, teach appropriate functional activities with particular emphasis on activities of daily living; improve fine motor skills including reach, grasp and release; provide and instruct in the use of upper extremity splints, braces, positioning devices and prostheses; provide training for perceptual motor and oral motor dysfunction and desk skills.

This recruitment will remain open until filled and may be used to fill future permanent, substitute, limited term, and temporary positions, both full-time and part-time throughout the County. The ideal candidate will have experience working with children with physical disabilities.
Minimum Qualifications
Physical/Occupational Therapist I: Either A: Possession of a valid California license as a Registered Physical Therapist; Or B: (Beginning 1/1/03) a valid California license as an Occupational Therapist. In addition, for Occupational Therapists, a valid registration with the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy.
Physical/Occupational Therapist II: Either A: Possession of a valid California license as a Registered Physical Therapist; Or B: (Beginning 1/1/03) a valid California license as an Occupational Therapist. In addition, For Occupational Therapists, a valid registration with the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy. AND: Three years of post-licensure therapy experience (a Master's Degree in Physical or Occupational Therapy may be substituted for one year of the required experience.)
