The Environmental Health Services Division of San Mateo County Health is seeking a well-qualified individual for the position of Environmental Health Program Supervisor. Program Supervisors, under direction, supervise, direct, organize, manage, evaluate, audit, and provide accountability for one or more Environmental Health programs in consumer protection (e.g., food, water, housing, retail tobacco, drinking water, groundwater protection, onsite wastewater treatment, well construction, pools, solid waste, infectious waste, and cross connection control) or hazardous materials / hazardous waste areas.
The current vacancy is in the Environmental Health Services Division's Land Use; Drinking Water, Recreational Water and Groundwater Protection; and Cross Connection Programs. This position is located in San Mateo, CA, but will travel / drive throughout the county to perform the duties of the job.
This position supervises staff and program development and management of Land Use; Drinking Water, Recreational Water and Groundwater Protection; and Cross Connection Programs. The Land Use Program comprises ordinances, policies, regulations and best management practices pertaining to well and onsite wastewater treatment system construction, repairs, and maintenance. The Groundwater Protection Program is responsible for contaminated site cleanup and comprises administration of the Local Oversight, UPA, and Voluntary Cleanup Programs, using a State grant and direct-bill funding to cover program costs. The position is also responsible for oversight of the program responsible for recreational water sampling of beaches and creek mouths for indicator bacteria that predict poor water quality for bathers. The Small Drinking Water Program includes management of ordinances, policies and state regulations pertaining to State Small Water Systems and domestic wells. Environmental Health Services contracts with water purveyors to implement a cross-connection program as mandated by the State Resources Control Board, ensuring water supplies are protected throughout San Mateo County.

Consumer Protection : Four years increasingly responsible experience as an Environmental Health Specialist or Hazardous Materials Specialist, which includes two years experience in a regulatory agency.
Hazardous Materials : Four years increasingly responsible experience in a relevant environmental health field such as hazardous materials management, infectious waste, food sanitation, etc.

Current County of San Mateo and County of San Mateo Superior Court of California employees with at least six months (1040 hours) of continuous service in a classified regular, probationary or extra-help / limited term position prior to the final filing date will receive five points added to their final passing score.
