Position:
The County of Santa Barbara’s Information Technology Department has one (1) temporary vacancy in Santa Barbara, CA (onsite). This role is 40 hours per week.
While this recruitment is for a temporary appointment (extra help) but we plan to fill this position in a regular, full-time role by the end of the year. The candidate selected from this recruitment, would need to participate in the regular Civil Service recruitment once that is available and place in the area of selection on the employment list.
Civil Service Rule 905. Extra Help Appointment.
This position is Extra Help and is governed by Civil Service Rule 905. An Extra Help appointment is defined as an appointment made to a non-regular, non-permanent position established on a temporary basis to meet peak loads, unusual work situations, seasonal and recurrent work, intermittent assignments, or emergencies. Such appointment, except emergency appointment, shall not exceed one thousand forty hours in the twelve-month period immediately following the first day of the first appointment of the incumbent, unless extended by prior approval of the Civil Service Commission.
Examples of Duties:
This role will provide general administrative assistance to our Network and Communications team. Some key responsibilities will include:
- Answering phones
- Mail/Package distribution
- Assisting walk-in customers
- Ordering office supplies
- Processing purchase orders
- Maintaining County telephone directory
- Assisting with consortium conference call system
- Coordinating PA system sign out
- Other related duties as assigned
We are looking for a candidate who is interested in customer service and learning about telecommunications and technology.
This role is and extra-help, at-will appointment. Employees in this role are required to work onsite.
We may appoint at the I or II level depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.

Additional Qualifications: Possession of a valid California Driver License may be required for some positions.
Selection Process:
