Under general supervision, to scrub in and perform highly specialized and routine diagnostic and interventional cardiac and radiology procedures in a Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory (CCL).

O'Connor Hospital - O'Connor Hospital (OCH) is a 358 licensed bed acute care facility offering a full range of inpatient and outpatient medical, surgical and specialty programs to residents of Santa Clara County. It was founded in 1889 as one of the first hospitals in the county. OCH has grown significantly over the past five years in both its inpatient volume and its Emergency Department visits. Along with these volume increases other ancillary and clinical departments like imaging, lab, pharmacy, and respiratory have seen growth as well.

 

St. Louise Regional Hospital - Since 1989, St. Louise Regional Hospital (SLRH) has been caring for the residents in Santa Clara and San Benito Counties, offering a wide range of inpatient and outpatient medical specialties. SLRH has 93 beds, is a Designated Primary Stroke Center, and is the only acute care hospital in the area. Located in Gilroy, SLRH maintains a CALSTAR 2 emergency helicopter base on the premises.

Positions in these classifications perform imaging procedures primarily in their respective area(s) of competency. The following is a descriptive list of the range of duties performed by employees in this classification and is not intended to reflect all duties performed by every incumbent in this classification:

  • Conducts product evaluation and inventory management of supplies used in the CCL;

     

  • Trains Registered Nurses and Radiology Technicians on procedures performed in the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory (CCL);

     

  • Directly assists the physician(s) during cardiovascular, interventional, neurovascular, vascular, electrophysiology, and angiographic procedures; 

     

  • Archives images in Picture Archive Communication System (PACS) or Cardiovascular Information System (CVIS) and verifies all required images are stored, properly specified, names corrected, and in the proper archive;

     

  • Operates ancillary equipment at a more advanced level for the modality, including measurements, indications, and troubleshooting;

     

  • Organizes technical assignments and assists patient flow in the Cardiac Catheterization Lab;

     

  • Completes daily room calibration and weekly fluoroscopy checks of all equipment;

     

  • Correctly obtains and identifies angiographic images, utilizing radiation reducing techniques according to best practice; 

     

  • Manipulates and sends images via the PACS and CVIS;

     

  • Operates and trouble-shoots, as necessary, diagnostic equipment and Interventional Adjuncts, via AngioJet, Rotoblator, Laser, etc.;

     

  • Tracks and bills each procedure and associated supplies;

     

  • Mixes, fills, and administers contrast media and medications from an automatic pressure injector and physician manifold during the procedures under direction of a physician;

     

  • Instructs patient, positions patient and equipment, computes and/or selects technical factors, and obtains images as instructed;

     

  • Performs other assigned radiographic procedures;

     

  • Performs routine administrative tasks;

     

  • Cleans and re-stocks procedure rooms and ancillary areas, and maintains proper inventory levels;

     

  • Adheres to all applicable Federal, State, and local regulations, including Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA);

     

  • Records, stores, retrieves, and analyzes data obtained during procedures;

     

  • Provides advanced scrub assistance, including patient positioning, prep, table set-up, draping, and supply selection during advanced procedures;

     

  • Performs patient assessment and reassessment during the procedure and relays information to nurse or physician in the room;

     

  • Verifies physician orders and properly organizes necessary equipment, supplies, and positioning;

     

  • May be assigned as a Disaster Service Worker, as required;

     

  • Performs other related duties as required.

Sufficient education, training, and experience to demonstrate the possession and direct application of the following knowledge and abilities:

 

Training and Experience Note: The required knowledge and abilities are attained through six (6) years of experience performing Interventional Radiology procedures, including two (2) years of recent experience in a cardiac catheterization lab.

 

Special Requirements:

  • Possession of a valid California Certified Radiologic Technologist (CRT) license.

     

  • Possession of a valid California Fluoroscopy license.

     

  • Possession of any of the following certifications: 

     

    • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Cardiovascular Interventional Radiography (CV)

       

    • ARRT Cardiac Interventional Radiography (CI) 

       

    • ARRT Vascular Interventional Radiography (VI)

       

    • CCI Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS)

 

Knowledge of:

  • Services including interventional, neurovascular, vascular, cardiovascular, and electrophysiology;

     

  • Ancillary equipment for the modality, including measurements, indications, and troubleshooting;

     

  • Radiographic and fluoroscopic techniques, methods and equipment;

     

  • Specialized diagnostic imaging principles, techniques, methods, and equipment relative to angiography procedures; 

     

  • Structural and organic anatomy;

     

  • Methods of positioning patients for radiographic and specialized diagnostic imaging exposures;

     

  • Principles of radiation physics;

     

  • Principles of image processing and development;

     

  • Scrub procedures, including patient positioning, prep, table set-up, draping and supply selection;

     

  • Regulatory requirements regarding Radiologic Technologist and radiation safety;

     

  • Physician orders to properly organize necessary equipment, supplies, positioning, and prior patient safety testing;

     

  • Basic computer applications.

 

Ability to:

  • Perform complex radiographic and diagnostic imaging procedures;

     

  • Accurately bill complex procedures and supplies in a timely fashion; 

     

  • Provide safe and appropriate care to all patients, even in stressful situations;

     

  • Troubleshoot, document, and communicate equipment problems;

     

  • Effectively communicate in English with patients and medical staff, both orally and in written form;

     

  • Follow written and oral instructions;

     

  • Prioritize tasks for safety and timeliness;

     

  • Work independently with minimal supervision;

     

  • Perform advanced scrub procedures;

     

  • Perform basic patient assessment and reassessment during the procedure and relay information to nurse or physician.

  • Willingly be placed on on-call status as needed.

Salary : $165,081 - $200,660
