What are the responsibilities and job description for the Park Maintenance Supervisor position at County of Santa Clara?
Under general direction, to assist the public in the use of County parks, its recreation facilities, resources and to plan, organize, supervise and direct park personnel in day-to-day maintenance and improvements for an assigned unit within the County Regional Park System.
Substitution: Responsible experience in the maintenance and development of park areas may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis when accompanied by college courses equivalent to completion of thirty (30) semester units in environmental resources, natural resources, engineering, park management or a closely related field from an accredited community college.

B) Experience: Two (2) years as a Senior Park Maintenance Worker or Senior Park Ranger in the Santa Clara County Parks and Recreation Department.
Substitution: Four (4) years of park maintenance management within a park, forest, public recreation, or historical area, including at least two (2) years in the performance of duties equivalent to those of the Senior Park Maintenance Worker of Santa Clara County Parks and Recreation or private sector.
Special Requirements:
- Implements and evaluates park programs and policies, recommends and develops plans to achieve unit objectives within an assigned park unit;
- Researches, prepares and monitors park budgets, defines personnel resource needs and allocates them as required to reach achieve unit objectives;
- Supervises, assigns, monitors and may assist in the work of subordinate classes of maintenance workers and other personnel assigned to the park unit such as: daily maintenance, assisting park visitors and performing facilities improvements or repairs of park area;
- Conducts formal and informal training of maintenance workers in such areas as: skill development and safety awareness programs, first aid techniques, departmental practices, policies and procedures;
- Administers maintenance contracts including specification development, bidding, monitoring and acceptance of work;
- Provides assistance in emergency situations at their assigned unit(s) or other park locations;
- Maintains records and prepares comprehensive reports;
- Provides input for construction projects, planning, development and implementation;
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Special Requirements:
- Possession of a valid California driver's license prior to appointment.
- Possession of a Standard First Aid and CPR certificate issued by the American Red Cross before completion of the probationary period.
- Possession of one (1) of the following cards: a qualified Applicator certificate, qualified Application license or A.P.C.A.C. in pest control category of B,C,F, before completion of probationary period.
- Possession of a Water Treatment Operator Grade 1 license before completion of the probationary period.
- Willingness to work weekends, holidays, or other irregular hours and to conform to departmental uniform standards;
- Principles and practices of construction management which include methods and techniques of park construction, repair and maintenance work;
- Methods of administrative problem solving;
- Basic horticulture practices, turf management and practices;
- Principles of organization and administration of fiscal, personnel and related aspects of park program management;
