What are the responsibilities and job description for the Rehabilitation Counselor position at County of Santa Clara?
Under direction, The Rehabilitation Counselor provides individual and group counseling to assist clients with personal, employment, educational and social adjustment problems.
This Rehabilitation Counselor posting is being opened to create a list that will be used to fill current and future vacancies. Qualified applicants will remain on the list and will be referred to available vacancies for the duration that the eligible list remains active (typically 1-3 months).
Bilingual applicants (Spanish, Vietnamese) are highly encouraged to apply as these languages are required for some positions.
Per California regulation requirement, for Rehabilitation Counselors in Behavioral Health Services Department and its programs, registered alcohol and drug counselor shall complete certification as an AOD counselor within five (5) years of the date of registration. The certifying organization may allow up to two (2) years additional time for a leave of absence due to a medical problem or other hardship. Employee who fails to meet this requirement maybe subject to job placement, job transfer, or release from employment.

- Conducts intake interviews to obtain client's personal, social, health and emotional history;
- Develops an orientation and treatment/recovery plan and conducts intensive individual and group motivational, intervention and rehabilitative counseling;
- Organizes group participation in recreational activities and group encounters;
- Assesses progress of client on a continuous basis and modifies counseling program to meet goals agreed upon;
- Consults with the program staff involved with the client's treatment/recovery;
- Provides counseling and guidance to family members of client;
- Provides outreach counseling and makes referrals for supportive services;
- Makes follow-up contacts to check on the client's rehabilitative progress;
- Conducts community informational seminars and serves as liaison between the program and other community agencies concerned with the client's treatment;
- Assists in the orientation and training of program staff;
- Prepares letters, case records, and reports as required;
- Attends staff meetings and in-service training sessions;
- Performs other related duties as required.
- Needs and problems of the population to which the incumbent is assigned;
- Treatment and counseling techniques used with the population to which the incumbent is assigned. These may include client-centered group and individual counseling, family systems, crisis intervention, relapse prevention, rational emotive therapy, and adjunct support group strategies; role-playing, psycho-drama, transactional analysis, behavior modification, gestalt psychology, and recreational therapy;
- Social and legal aspects related to the specific population;
- Dual diagnosed clients;
- Techniques and dynamics of individual and group therapy;
- Confidentiality restrictions;
- General knowledge of community resources available for treatment of assigned clients.
- Apply the techniques used in individual and group therapy;
- Obtain and record social, educational and work histories;
- Write clear, accurate and concise reports and interpret data;
- Conduct family counseling;
- Establish and maintain the confidence and cooperation of clients including those of varied ethnic and social backgrounds;
- Establish effective working relationships with program staff and others contacted in the course of the work.
Salary : $90,172 - $109,127
