Under the general supervision of the Director of Therapy Services, supervises assigned clinical staff; supports and facilitates the delivery of patient-focused care; coordinates assigned clinical and administrative activities within the division; participates in program and service development as a member of the leadership team; functions as a liaison with other agencies and departments; and may serve as Acting Director in the absence of the Therapy Services Director.

O'Connor Hospital - O'Connor Hospital (OCH) is a 358 licensed bed acute care facility offering a full range of inpatient and outpatient medical, surgical and specialty programs to residents of Santa Clara County. It was founded in 1889 as one of the first hospitals in the county. OCH has grown significantly over the past five years in both its inpatient volume and its Emergency Department visits. Along with these volume increases other ancillary and clinical departments like imaging, lab, pharmacy, and respiratory have seen growth as well.

 

St. Louise Regional Hospital - Since 1989, St. Louise Regional Hospital (SLRH) has been caring for the residents in Santa Clara and San Benito Counties, offering a wide range of inpatient and outpatient medical specialties. SLRH has 93 beds, is a Designated Primary Stroke Center, and is the only acute care hospital in the area. Located in Gilroy, SLRH maintains a CALSTAR 2 emergency helicopter base on the premises.

  • Coordinate and maintain, in collaboration with other Therapy Services Program Managers, adequate staffing resources within assigned service area(s) that ensures required levels of clinical expertise through experience and education;
     
  • Participate in personnel management in the areas of labor relations, recruitment, hiring, goal setting, evaluation, orientation, coordination of ongoing staff clinical competency, team building, and mentoring;
     
  • Identify assigned clinical service needs and provide information to the Director of Therapy Services for consideration;
     
  • Participate in the development and monitoring of customer service in Therapy Services;
     
  • Participate in Quality Assurance and Utilization Management activities and evaluation;
     
  • Assist in the administration of the division by planning and implementing divisional objectives, maintaining statistical systems, and providing periodic reports;
     
  • Review generated revenues, charge systems, ratio of reimbursement and denials; adjustment/handling of fee and billing problems;
     
  • Participate in budget development and evaluation, productivity monitoring and planning for space utilization;
     
  • Assist with the contract negotiation process;
     
  • Support assigned clinical programs, and grant activities;
     
  • Manage supply and equipment ordering and inventory processes;
     
  • Coordinate vendor interactions, equipment related contracts, and authorize purchase of durable medical and other equipment;
     
  • Advise Director on professional/legal/medical trends;
     
  • Represent Therapy Services at interdepartmental meetings and serve on hospital committees as assigned;
     
  • Participate in service related meetings and on service specific committees;
     
  • Collaborate with other Health and Hospital departments to identify and resolve problems and enhance service;
     
  • Serve as designated divisional representative in the absence of the Therapy Services Director; under supervision may represent the Director in specific meetings or tasks as assigned;
     
  • Provide input to and/or develop Therapy Services Policies and Procedures;
     
  • Participate in research activities;
     
  • Provide patient care on an as needed and as available basis within scope of professional practice, experience and knowledge;
     
  • Other related work as required.
A valid license to practice as an Occupational Therapist, Physical Therapist, Psychologist or Speech-Language Pathologist in the State of California, or a valid certification from the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation (NCTRC), the national credentialing organization for therapeutic recreation and recreation therapy, to practice as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist.

A Master's degree in the professional discipline is desired but not required.

Sufficient education, knowledge and experience to demonstrate the possession and application of the knowledge and abilities listed below.

Experience Note
The above required experience may typically be met by completing three years of clinical experience in their area of licensure in the above specialties plus at least one year as a supervisor with teaching and administrative responsibilities.

Knowledge of
  • Basic treatment and practices of the disciplines working in a rehabilitation program and there interface with each other;
     
  • Practices of other disciplines working in the rehabilitation program and their interface with each other;
     
  • Principles of supervision, organization and administration, budget and financial management, and statistical analysis;
     
  • Educational trends and needs for therapy services disciplines;
     
  • Legal issues affecting service, practice and reimbursement.
     
Ability to
 
  • Adapt to new situations, analyze data, prioritize workload, and solve problems;
     
  • Plan, organize and direct the Therapy Services program;
     
  • Instruct, coach and supervise professional and non-professional personnel;
     
  • Communicate effectively in writing and verbally, and prepare meaningful reports;
     
  • Foster interdisciplinary practice and unity within the Therapy Services;
     
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work such as Medical Directors;
     
  • Advocate for and represent Therapy Services to the community and other individuals;
     
  • Assist, support, lift and transfer patients;
     
  • Reach, grasp, and manipulate a variety of objects;
     
  • Carry equipment/supplies and operate power tools.

Salary : $185,796 - $225,853
