JOB DESCRIPTION
The Clerk position involves work within the Criminal Justice System in the Somerset County Court of Common Pleas. To perform this job successfully, an individual should possess a general knowledge of the American Legal System and legal terms, should possess a basic knowledge of the Somerset County criminal legal procedures, must possess general secretarial and office skills and must be able to demonstrate proficiency in typing, spelling, grammar and communication skills.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
An employee in this classification is responsible for performing assignments that are pressing in nature. All employees must maintain strict confidentiality of all aspects of their duties, as any information in the District Attorney’s Office is not open to the public
· General reception duties to include answering two incoming phone lines and answering questions from the public, defense counsel or court staff, or routes incoming calls to the appropriate person.
· Open, Stamp, sort. and distribute all incoming mail.
· Keep running log of all Petitions and Continuances to be signed (entering & exiting the office).
· Track incoming Juvenile Petitions.
· Type briefs, transcription & correspondence for attorneys.
· Prepares Motions Court, Sentence, Terminations & Revocation files for Court.
· Maintain daily calendar, including regular updates sent to Attorneys.
· Prepares Omnibus Pretrial files for hearings and notification to all officers and witnesses.
· Maintain spreadsheet on all pending and completed Omnibus Pretrial filed.
· Enter sentence dates in Prosecutors System and pull files for court.
· File files returning from court after determining if follow up is needed.
· Run Arraignment List, Call Of Criminal Trial List and Notices for same with Crystal Reports.
· Copy and Mail all Fugitive Trial Lists.
· Electronically file briefs with the Superior Court of Pennsylvania.
· Good Organizational skills and ability to work with little or no supervision.
· Other duties as directed.
ELIGIBILITY – ALL CANDIDATES MUST
Any combination equivalent to education and experience that provides the required skill and knowledge is qualifying.
Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:
- High School Diploma.
- Prior knowledge and general understanding of the Court System.
