As a Park Aide, you will play a key role in supporting the daily operations of the park, and a variety of Sonoma County Regional Park programs with Park Rangers and Ranger Assistants. On the-job training is provided to learn about the park rules, procedures, interpretation, and operations. This role works independently and collaboratively as a team. As a Park Aide, you will:
The Ideal Candidates Will Possess Many Of The Following
Extra-help employees relieve or augment permanent staff. Temporary, extra-help employees are not in the classified civil service and do not have property rights to permanently allocated positions. In addition, they do not receive most employee benefits such as long-term disability insurance coverage; accrual of vacation; participation in the County retirement program; or eligibility to take promotional examinations. Temporary, extra-help employees are limited in their employment to a maximum of one calendar year. These employees must be off of work for three months before they can be re-employed on an extra help basis. Extra-help employees who meet the eligibility requirements may qualify for a County contribution toward medical coverage.
This recruitment is being conducted to fill multiple Park Aide temporary, extra-help positions in the Regional Parks Department. This employment list may also be used to fill future extra-help positions as they occur during the active status of this list.

Minimum Qualifications
Experience and Education: Any combination of education and work experience which would provide an opportunity to acquire the knowledge and abilities listed herein. Normally, this would include experience in a position involving public contact, or performing janitorial, and/or physical manual labor. Coursework or training in park management, natural resources, forestry, environmental studies, or a closely related field is desirable.
Desirable Certifications: Possession of a valid American Heart Association Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and an Emergency Cardiac Care card is desirable.
License: Possession of a valid driver's license at the appropriate level including special endorsements, as required by the State of California, may be required depending upon assignment to perform the essential job functions of the position.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Working knowledge of: basic janitorial techniques; occupational hazards and standard safety practices.
Ability to: follow oral and written instructions; use hand tools and light machines; perform moderately heavy physical manual labor; detect safety hazards within a park area and report problems to supervisor; prepare a simple record of daily fees on a standardized form; deal effectively and tactfully with the public and County personnel; ensure adherence to safe work practices and procedures; tactfully explain rules, regulations, laws and ordinances; safely drive and operate light motorized vehicles.

- Clean and sanitize restrooms, dump trash, and collect litter
- Assist with special events, park previews, and educational programs
- Participates in trainings that pertain to responding to emergencies and operations within the park
- Assist Maintenance Workers with various tasks
- Helps the Park Operations team keep the parks safe and clean
- Interprets Park rules to park visitors
- Collect fees such as day use passes, membership purchases, and campground fees
The Ideal Candidates Will Possess Many Of The Following
- Experience performing janitorial and physical labor duties
- Basic Microsoft Office skills
- The ability to make independent decisions and possesses problem-solving skills
- Experience handling cash and using a point of sale system
- Strong communication skills and excellent customer service skills to assist a diverse group of people internally and to the externally
- CPR or Basic First Aid is desired, but not required
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills are desired, but not required
