Job Description
Under administrative direction; administers and manages the Geographic Information System computer operation; oversees hardware and software installation; trouble shoots system problems; monitors system performance and system usage; answers user’s questions. Performs other related duties as required.
Required Qualifications:
ANY COMBINATION OF TRAINING AND WORK EXPERIENCE WHICH INDICATES POSSESSION OF THE SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES LISTED BELOW.
Completion of a four (4) year degree in computer science and three (3) to four (4) years experience in hardware and software installation and system software analysis functions.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Comprehensive knowledge of hardware/software equipment utilized in engineering, geography & planning; department goals, objectives, policies & procedures* and management principles. Ability to deal with many variables & determine specific actions; understand manuals and verbal instructions technical in nature; prepare concise, accurate and complex documentation; communicate effectively; gather, collate and classify data; cooperate with coworkers on group projects; develop good rapport with vendors; define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.

Job Duties
The duties listed below are intended to depict tasks performed by this position.
- Directs and/or coordinates the installation of GIS hardware and software according to the specification to ensure the required need of the system are met; troubleshoots system operational problems; performs first line problem resolution; determines need for vendor maintenance support; receives and resolves user system questions or other related operational problems; serves in an advisory capacity for new application design and development projects.
- Monitors GIS performance, implements standard performance adjustment procedures; optimizes data communication facilities and network data flows; develops and implements efficient operational procedures for batch and interactive input/output processing; develops procedures for system backup operations; develops, implements and monitors system usage accounting; prepares documentation on system activities related to assigned operational areas (e.g., summaries, statistics, problems, corrective actions taken, etc.).
- Coordinates maintenance and service contracts with hardware and software vendors; evaluates requirements for system upgrades and participles in the selection and procurement of new hardware and software components as part of an evaluation team.
- Performs direct of supervision of technicians and specialists and assumes additional managerial functions as work load dictates; assigns and reviews work, evaluates staff performance; resolves difficult problems that arise (internal, external), ensures staff adherence to established operational procedures and protocols; develops and/or conducts technical training.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:30 am - 4:00 pm. Some evening and weekend work hours may be required.
Work Location: Ohio Building - 175 S. Main St. Akron, OH 44308 - No hybrid work schedule permitted for this position.
