Please note: Incumbents of this classification are required to work rotational weekends and holidays, may have fluctuating work hours, and are subject to after hour call out.
About the Position :Enforces County and state laws and regulations pertaining to the licensing, impounding and disposal of animals; participates in the collection of dangerous or unwanted animals, and the investigation of complaints regarding code violations.
- Enforces laws and regulations pertaining to the licensing, impounding and disposal of animals.
- Investigates complaints about livestock injuries or losses, inhumane treatment of animals, and/or stray, biting or diseased animals.
- Assembles evidence and prepares cases against violators; issues citations; provides court testimony and/or participates in hearings, as required.
- Locates, captures, transports, impounds, quarantines and arranges for the placement of impounded animals.

Any combination of training and experience which would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
- Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade.
- Experience working with animals in a shelter, veterinarian's office, or similar setting.
License & Special Requirements :
- Requires a valid California driver's license.
- Requires the successful completion of Penal Code 832 certification within one year of initial employment.
- Must be able to pass an extensive background check.
- Must be able to obtain appropriate euthanasia training and certification within one (1) year of employment.

In addition, Tehama County is establishing an eligibility list to fill future vacancies for an Animal Regulation Officer, as well as subsequent vacancies which occur during the life of the eligibility list.

New employees should anticipate being hired at the beginning step of the salary range. Candidates who exceed entry level qualifications may be considered, with approval from the Board of Supervisors, for placement at other than A step.
