About the Position:
The County of Tehama is seeking a highly motivated professional for the position of Building Official. This exciting opportunity is a department head level position that administers, directs, supervises and participates in the enforcement of the laws, codes and regulations governing the construction, alteration and repair of all new and existing buildings and other construction within the County. The incumbent prepares and administers the annual department budget, as well as monitors and approves budget expenditures. The Department is fully funded through fees for services. The Building Official is responsible for monitoring the adequacy of the fee schedule and making fee increase recommendations to the Board of Supervisors.

The Ideal Candidate:
The County is seeking a seasoned and dynamic leader who has thorough knowledge of the laws, codes and regulations governing building inspections, zoning, public health and safety. The ideal candidate will possess a balanced combination of solid administrative and technical skills, as well as the ability to demonstrate the use of independent judgment and discretion in supervising various programs. Experience preparing and administering a budget in a public agency is essential. Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills are imperative to a candidate's success in this search. The Building Official will be expected to cultivate and maintain successful relationships with a number of entities including; the Board of Supervisors, Chief Administrator, County staff, developers, other outside agencies and the community.

- Acts as the appointing authority for all positions in the department. Assigns, supervises, reviews and evaluates the work of department personnel; hires/discharges building inspection personnel. Ensures the provision of adequate staff training as needed.
- Prepares and administers the annual department budget; monitors and approves budget expenditures.
- Formulates and implements departmental policies and procedures.
- Interprets laws, codes and regulations pertaining to building inspection activities and functions.

Any combination of training and experience which would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:- Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a Bachelor's degree in business administration, public administration, or related field.
- Five (5) years of professional experience as a Building Official is highly desired. Three (3) years of supervisory experience is required.
License & Special Requirements:
- Requires a valid California driver's license.
- Possession of certification, training, and education pursuant to Chapter 7, Part 2.5 of Division 13 of the California Health and Safety Code.
- Building Official certification preferably from the Council of American Building Officials.
Tehama County is recruiting for one (1) vacancy.
In addition, Tehama County is establishing an eligibility list to fill future vacancies for a Building Official, as well as subsequent vacancies which occur during the life of the eligibility list.
