Thurston County Public Works is recruiting for a Litter Control Laborer to join our dynamic, energetic, and innovative Solid Waste team. The successful candidate will primarily be responsible for performing litter pickup along roadways and on public properties. This position may also perform other duties such as operating a truck and trailer, performing general labor and maintenance tasks, and providing storm response such as filling sandbags and clearing storm drains.Essential functions may include, but are not limited to, the following: Performs manual labor collecting roadside and illegally dumped litter of varying sizes and materials requiring standing, bending, and walking for extended periods of time. Drives vehicle with utility trailer attached. Works alongside court-mandated community service volunteers. Exercises safe working procedures and practices. Reads and interprets written instructions and documents and follows oral instructions. Operates small hand tools.To view the full job classification, click here: Flagger/LaborerEssential Personnel: This position is considered to be an essential worker and may be required to work during non-business hours or closures in order to meet operational requirements and needs.WORKING CONDITIONS: Work Environment – Duties are mostly performed outdoors and are frequently exposed to loud noises, strong smells, fumes, traffic, and weather. May be exposed to hazardous or infectious materials, extreme temperatures, or work near homeless campsites. QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma or GED.One year of construction related experience.Must have valid Washington State Driver's License.Must possess a Washington Traffic Flagging Card or obtain one within six (6) months of employment.Must hold a valid First Aid Card (or obtain within 3 months of employment).Any demonstrated combination of experience, training and education which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform labor intensive tasks for extended periods under unfavorable weather conditions and safely operate tools and equipment.Experience in roadway maintenance, highway or building construction that directly involves the skills required to operate machinery, small tools, power tools, vehicles or equipment.DESIRED SKILLS: Ability to tow and maneuver a utility trailer Familiarity with Thurston County roads and geography Comfortable working with diverse groups of individuals Ability to lift in excess of 50 lbs.OTHER RELATED RECRUITMENT INFORMATION: Questions about this recruitment?
