Current vacancy within the Health & Human Services Agency located in Visalia. This recruitment will establish an employment list to fill current and future vacancies. The anticipated life of the employment list is six months.
This position is within the Public Health Department and offers the opportunity to work with public and private sector representatives. This position works closely with community and faith-based groups, businesses, non-profits, clinics, and government agencies. Duties will include: conduct health related educational presentations; prepare health education materials such as articles, reports, pamphlets, visual aids and exhibits; implement new programs or improve existing ones; establish and maintain liaison with community groups, agencies and individuals; confer with school administrators, physicians, nurses and teachers to develop adequate health education programs; conduct community surveys in order to determine health education needs; provide information and respond to inquiries from general public; address various community groups concerning matters pertinent to health education; provide in-service training for health department staff; research, review and maintain files of current public health education literature, statistical information and legislative activities.
Knowledge of: Educational methods and theory for development of training modules; health education planning and public health philosophy as related to program planning; math sufficient to interpret statistical data, prepare budgets and project material costs for programs; research and evaluation methods.
Skill/Ability to: Plan, organize and conduct public health education presentations; speak effectively before groups for the purpose of providing information; formulate program goals and objectives; write clear, concise and accurate grant proposals, reports, news releases, and evaluations; develop survey tools and evaluate health education program success; facilitate group process activities by applying methods for problem solving; read and interpret public health laws, professional journals and research papers; develop and implement new health education programs; communicate with people of various educational and socioeconomic backgrounds in a tactful, patient manner; coordinate work with other departments; accomplish project goals.
Desirable Qualifications:
Skill and ability to: Speak, read, and write Spanish is preferred. Research compile and analyze information to formulate appropriate alternatives and recommendations; Address health issues in disadvantaged communities and priority populations through policy and system change that support positive lifestyle behaviors. Communication, marketing, and community outreach experience preferred.
Experience: Implementing health programs; delivering lifestyle improvement programs; working in clinical setting (interacting with licensed medical staff), working with organizations on healthy policies; and working with, training, or supporting community leaders.
Salary : $58,951 - $71,846
