This recruitment will establish an employment list to fill current and any future vacancies within the Tulare County District Attorney Office. The anticipated life of the employment list is six months.  If interested in employment for this position for current or future vacancies, please submit an online application for consideration.

Current vacancies are with the District Attorney Office Bureau of Investigations Unit located in Visalia. 

Process and serve documents such as legal motions, subpoenas, and family support documents; determine location of persons, agencies and businesses from available sources; contact other agencies and businesses, and examine public and private records for personal history and other data; obtain information and data via law enforcement computerized systems such as CLETS and DMV; establish and maintain effective working relationships with public and private agencies; maintain records and correspondence; may testify in court as to the development and presentation of evidence and as to the service of subpoenas and related documents. Coordinate witnesses’ court appearance in accordance with active subpoenas.  

Education:  Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12) grade.

Experience: One (1) year of significant public contact experience.

Knowledge of: Basic math; legal documents and service; requirements of service methods to locate persons; resources available in locating individuals; process requirements of legal documents.

Skill/Ability to:  Work and communicate effectively with people of various education and socioeconomic backgrounds by respecting beliefs, interpersonal styles and behaviors of both clients and co-workers; operate contemporary office equipment inclusive of computer, keyboard, and all applicable electronic equipment; understand and carry out verbal and written instructions; establish and maintain effective working relationships with public and private agencies; perform assignments with accuracy and attention to detail; organize work assignments and set priorities; exercise tact, courtesy and patience in difficult environments/situations; read and understand maps; verify and check files, reports and data; transport witnesses; maintain confidentiality; read and understand mapped information, legal documents and codes; identify and utilize available resources to locate individuals; identify evasive patterns of individuals.

DESIRABLE EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS

Knowledge of:  Legal terms and procedures used in writing declarations and other court documents and community resources to aid in locating witness.

Skill/Ability to:  Create subpoenas, form letters and other documents for distribution; create and maintain file folders for each assigned case; record and update witness information; communicate with attorneys and court personnel on witness appearances and case dispositions; advise witnesses on case settlements and changes in court schedule; coordinate travel arrangements for out of county and out of state witnesses; collect and tabulate accurate statistics; process and serve documents such as legal motions, subpoenas and family support documents; determine location of persons, agencies and businesses from available resources; contact other agencies and businesses , and examine public and private records for personal history and other data; obtain information and data via law enforcement computerized systems such as CLETS and DMV; establish and maintain effective working relationships with public and private agencies; maintain records and correspondence; may testify in court as to the development and presentation of evidence and as to the service of subpoenas and related documents.

Conditions of Employment: Candidates selected will be required to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening. Additionally, a background investigation may also be conducted. Some job classes may also require a physical exam.
