- Provides transportation services to and from County facilities, local emergency rooms, out-of-area hospitals, and local contracted facilities to individuals and/or groups to appointments, hospitalizations, events and activities, court appearances, psychiatric evaluations.
- Provides round-trip transportation to the Public Guardian conservatees from within or outside of the County to facilitate attendance at court hearings; assists passengers in and out of the vehicle; provides safety briefing to passengers.
- Operates and maintains transportation vehicles with a focus on safety and customer courtesy.
- Performs daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
- Performs minor cleaning and maintenance tasks on the vehicles when necessary; fuels the vehicles.
- Ensures that periodic scheduled vehicle maintenance and repairs are completed and reported.
- Prepares and documents trip reports.
- Prepares and documents accident and incident reports as necessary; protects the scene if involved in a vehicle accident; provides first aid to passengers, as needed.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Ability to:
- Drive a vehicle in a safe and courteous manner.
- Show tolerance for behavioral distractions presented by people who are being transported.
- Read and interpret road maps correctly in order to plan efficient routes.
- Analyze situations accurately, use appropriate techniques and tactics to diffuse aggressive or difficult behavior and apply proper defense tactics for protection against assault.
- Work inconsistent hours and respond to the needs of the department at any time, day or night, & any day of the week.
- Operate a cell phone.
- Recognize potential exposure to blood borne pathogens and apply required personal protective equipment.

Education and Experience:

- Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12th) grade and three (3) years of licensed driving experience with a clean driving record for a minimum of 10 years.
Licenses and Certifications:
- Possession of, a valid California Driver’s License.
- May be required to possess a valid Class B license if assigned to the Behavioral Health Department.
