Maintenance Worker III Venango County Courthouse
Full-Time, 80 hours/pay
DEPARTMENT: Venango County Maintenance
PAY GRADE: SEIU HOURLY TEN
$12.31/hr.
To perform general maintenance and repair within the buildings and grounds of the County owned and leased property.
- Performs maintenance and repair duties as required on various buildings and equipment.
- Stocks department supplies.
- Checks boiler, gauges and other equipment for proper operation and makes adjustments if necessary.
- Checks buildings on a routine basis to ensure they are in good repair and well maintained to provide a safe working environment for employees as well as the general public.
- Changes light bulbs as needed.
- Checks air conditioning and refrigeration units and charges as necessary.
- Installs equipment as needed.
- Removes snow manually from walkways and entrance ways when necessary and with plow truck for cleaning parking lots and roadways; cuts grass as required.
- Makes plumbing, electrical, heating and air conditioning repairs.
- Makes repairs to damaged equipment.
- Operates power equipment and hand tools to perform essential job duties.
- Paints required fixtures, building and other objects as directed.
- Performs carpentry duties as assigned.
- Assists Supervisor with work assignments or special projects as necessary.
- Assists with setting up and cleaning for special events.
- Performs other job-related duties as required.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Receives supervision from the Property Manager through daily interaction, meetings, and observation of work completed. Receives occasional instructions on special work projects, but employee is expected to work independently in regard to daily work duties. Receives direction regarding assigned projects from Maintenance Worker IV.
SUPERVISION GIVEN
No direct supervision; occasional instruction and training provided to the other maintenance helpers (lower level Maintenance staff members, community service workers, inmates, etc.) as requested by the Property Manager.
WORKING CONDITIONS
1. Works indoors in inadequate work space with varying temperatures, ventilation and lighting.
2. Works with indoor and outdoor exposure to noise, stress and disruptions.
3. Above normal indoor exposure to dust/dirt, especially when cleaning air ducts or when around fuel and/or runways, or working outdoors, i.e., parks, tracts, etc.
4. Subject to working different shifts as required.
5.Subject to periodically working in adverse conditions depending on the nature of job assignment.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL CONDITIONS
1. Must possess ability to record, convey and present information, explain procedures and follow instructions.
2. Must be able to stand and walk intermittently for long periods throughout the workday, with occasional sitting, bending, twisting, stooping, climbing, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching and grasping and driving as necessary to carry out duties of job.
3. Dexterity requirements range from simple to coordinated movements of fingers/hands, feet/legs, torso as necessary to carry out job duties.
4. Medium work with frequent lifting/carrying of objects weighing from 25 to 50 pounds; occasionally lifts 100 pounds with assistance and/or lifting equipment.
5. Must demonstrate emotional stability.
6. Must be able to move frequently throughout the workday.
QUALIFICATIONS
A. EDUCATION/TRAINING
High school diploma or equivalency required, plus trade school training in electrical, plumbing, carpentry and painting preferred, or Venango County Maintenance Apprentice Program.
Must possess a valid Pennsylvania Driver’s License.
B. WORK EXPERIENCE
Three to four years’ experience in a building maintenance environment required; or any acceptable combination of experience and/or training.
Clearances:
- Must work in conjunction with employer to apply for Act 34 PA State Police Criminal History, Act 151 PA Child Abuse and FBI clearances prior to employment. All clearances must reflect acceptable results.
- Must not appear on Preclusion Lists as defined by “Pennsylvania’s Medical Assistance Bulletin 99-11-05 Provider Screening of Employees and Contractors for Exclusion from Participating in Federal Healthcare Programs.”
- Must successfully complete pre-employment drug screening.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
- Must be able to speak and understand the English language in an understandable manner in order to carry out essential job duties.
- Must possess ability to function independently, have flexibility and the ability to work effectively with clients, co-workers and others.
- Must possess a willingness to travel as needed.
- Must possess advanced knowledge of the methods, tools and practices used in general maintenance and construction.
- Must possess advanced knowledge and ability to detect defects in equipment and make proper adjustments.
- Must possess advanced knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions and the ability to exercise skill in the care and use of various tools and equipment.
- Must possess ability to utilize Countyvehicles and various equipment such as a snow blower, tractor, hand tools, drill press, etc.
- Must possess ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Must possess ability to accurately and safely complete advanced repairs and maintenance on heating, air conditioning and plumbing needs.
- Must possess ability to operate County vehicles used for maintenance and to plow snow in winter and cut grass in spring and summer.
- Must have thorough knowledge of local codes and regulations and ability to troubleshoot problem areas.
- Must have general knowledge of how to operate a personal computer.
