What are the responsibilities and job description for the Aircraft Mechanic - Mosquito Control position at County of Volusia?

- Performs preventative maintenance on aircraft.
- Overhauls and repairs aircraft and systems as required by FAA regulations and necessity.
- Performs regular scheduled maintenance and inspections of aircraft and systems as required.
- Maintains spare parts stock for aircraft.
- Keeps up to date records and submits necessary reports.
- Maintains stationary and mobile fuel tanks (Jet A) and ensures compliance with regulations.
- May assist pilots in aerial inspection and spraying of mosquito habitats.
- May assist in the repair and maintenance of vehicles.
- May repair small equipment, motors, engines, and spray application equipment.
- May provide support in transporting material for night missions and remote loading.
- Maintains catalogs and technical manuals.
- Maintains tools and equipment to support operations.
- May be assigned to other county locations based upon operational needs.
- Attends work on a regular and consistent basis.
- Must adhere to Federal, State, County and Local ordinances.
- Responds to emergencies.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education:
Graduation from high school or possession of a GED.
Experience/Training/Certification:
Two (2) years of experience as a helicopter mechanic.
Must be at least 18 years old.
Must have an FAA Airframe Rating with no adverse administrative actions and maintain thereafter.
Must have an FAA Power Plant Rating with no adverse administrative actions and maintain thereafter.
Must meet and maintain Federal Aviation Regulation Part 65 requirements (14 CFR Part 65).
Must possess a basic set of tools appropriate for the maintenance of helicopters.
License/s:
Must possess a valid driver’s license at time of hire.
Must obtain a valid Florida driver’s license within 30 days of hire and maintain thereafter.
Must obtain a valid Public Health Pest Control License from the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS) within six (6) months of hire and maintain thereafter.
**The preferred candidate will have more than two (2) years of experience in helicopter maintenance.
- Knowledge of methods, materials, and techniques used in the repair and overhaul of aircraft.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
- Knowledge of structural and composite repair.
- Skilled in the use and operation of tools and machinery.
- Skilled in locating and adjusting defects in motor equipment.
- Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
- Ability to maintain turbine engines.
- Ability to obtain and maintain required certifications.
- Ability to safely operate county vehicles and equipment.
- Ability to work extended hours when needed.
- Ability to work under stressful conditions.
- Ability to interact effectively with others.
- Must be able to work in other county locations based upon operational needs.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENT
The position is located in New Smyrna Beach, FL. Must be able to travel to various off-site work locations throughout Volusia County for repairs and return to hangar. Out of county travel may be required.
ADA REQUIREMENTS:
Physical Demands: Ability to perform essential duties and responsibilities and meet the minimum qualifications. Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull 50 lbs. Ability to see, hear, walk, stand, crouch, bend, stoop, kneel, smell, climb, reach, handle; manual dexterity. Visual acuity (peripheral vision, depth perception and color acuity) necessary to operate motorized vehicles, read schematics and ensure close tolerances and specifications are met working with aircraft components.
Environmental Demands: Inside and outside work. Ability to tolerate inclement weather including heat, rain, humidity, cold, fumes, odors, noise, vibration, and dust. Potential exposure to chemicals, pesticides, confined spaces, welder flash, grinding dust, hot engines and sandblasting.
Mental Demands: Ability to read and comprehend technical manuals and instructions; safety instructions, schematics; instructions, procedures, memos. Ability to perform shop math. Ability to write at a level to relay information, instructions, data, details and ideas. Ability to speak clearly and concisely to relay instructions, directions, details, and information.
Salary : $22 - $40
