What are the responsibilities and job description for the Equipment Operator II - Road and Bridge position at County of Volusia?
The County of Volusia is seeking an Equipment Operator II for the Road and Bridge Division. This position is located at various locations throughout Volusia County and will be responsible for operating tractors; operating front end loaders; operating backhoes with buckets of less than a yard; operating skid steers; operating tandem dump trucks; forming and pouring concrete; performing daily safety inspections of assigned equipment prior to and after each use. Candidate will also be responsible to maintaining County roads and rights of way.

Possession of a valid Florida CDL Class B or higher at time of appointment and maintain thereafter.
Must possess a valid Florida driver’s license at the time of hire and maintain thereafter.
A comparable amount of education, training, or experience may be substituted for the minimum requirements.
The preferred candidate, having met the minimum requirements, will have at least two (2) years of experience operating a slope mower, zero turn mower, flat mower, front end loader, skid steer, tandem dump truck and forming, pouring and finishing concrete.
NOTE: A pre-employment skills test will be required.
Physical Demands: Heavy work. Ability to push, lift and pull up to 75 lbs (arm and leg), pull, reach, climb, sit, see (near and far acuity, depth perception, field of vision) turn (neck, body), handle. Visual acuity (depth perception, peripheral vision) necessary to operate motorized vehicles.
Environmental Demands: (Demands may change depending on division/service center and equipment of assignment.) Outside work. Exposure to inclement weather (heat, humidity, cold, rain), fumes, odors, noise, vibration, dust, poor ventilation.
Mental Demands: Ability to read and comprehend operational and safety instructions, procedures, rules, policies, warnings, memos. Ability to write simple sentences relaying information, data, and details. Ability to perform basic math.

- Operates ten wheel trucks.
- Operates tractor with front end loader.
- Operates backhoe with bucket of less than a yard.
- Operates tractor with front end loader and backhoe with bucket of less than a yard.
- Operates a distributor applying oils, asphalt or tars to highway
surface. - Operates roller in patching county roads. Loads distributor from supply tank.
- Operates rotary crane on tracks. Picks up, spots, and places materials where indicated by supervisor.
- Performs daily safety inspections of assigned equipment prior to and after use.
- Performs routine service and maintenance.
- Occasionally may operate a simple flatbed or dump truck, or a variety of minor powered machinery and equipment.
- Participates generally in the laboring work of the crew as workload
demands. - May be assigned to other county locations based upon operational needs.
- Attends work on a regular and consistent basis.
- Must adhere to Federal, State, County and Local ordinances.
- Responds to emergency situations.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

- Ability to service various types of relatively heavy equipment.
- Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
- Skill in the operation of moderately complex construction and transportation equipment.

- Must be able to relocate to other county locations based upon operational needs.
