The County of Volusia is seeking a Library Associate for the Library Services Division. This position is located in the Pierson Public Library and will be responsible for circulation functions and is the subject matter expert on the circulation and patron functions in the ILS. This position manages the materials collection maintenance and supervises library assistants and student workers in collection maintenance tasks, plans and produces programs under the direction of the branch manager, participates in community outreach, and coordinates public meeting room use. This position serves as the person-in-charge in the absence of the Branch Manager and spends a minimum of 50% of time in direct service to the public.

- Provides front-line, telephone, and/or electronic service to the Public.
- May serve as the Volunteer Coordinator for assigned branch and coordinates volunteer activities such as scheduling, assigning, training and recognizing the volunteer work force.
- Ensures that County policies and procedures are followed; explains and interprets policies to patrons; takes complaints and handles appropriately; assists in developing improved procedures.
- Ensures assigned area or specialized unit is well-stocked and supervises supply usage and coordinates reordering.
- Ensures that assigned area or specialized unit is prepared for library opening.
- Uses the integrated library system software, online databases, the Internet, electronic catalog, and may assist with maintenance of library equipment software or hardware.
- May prepare, monitor, update, and approve employee schedules and work time in the County's electronic payroll system.
- Attends library committee meetings, trainings, workshops, outreach and other various meetings as required. This includes traveling to other library branches, other county offices, various outreach locations, and out of county.
- Perform work of lower level library classifications and related work as required.
- May be assigned to other county locations based upon operational needs.
- Attends work on a regular and consistent basis.
- Must adhere to Federal, State, County and Local ordinances.
- Responds to emergency situations.
- Performs other duties as assigned
Bachelor's degree (BA) in Liberal Arts, English, or related field.

Associate's degree (AA) and two (2) years of experience or equivalent.
A comparable amount of education, training and experience may substitute for the minimum requirements.

Ability to see, hear and listen, talk; detailed finger dexterity (including grasping and small tool manipulation), may require visually acuity for fine print. Visual acuity (peripheral vision and depth perception) necessary to operate a motorized vehicle. Ability to lift and push 25 pounds, carry, bend, reach, kneel, crouch, stretch, twist, and climb. Ability to stand for long periods of time.
Mental Demands: Ability to read and comprehend professional and technical manuals, procedures and journals; memos, policies, safety instructions. Ability to adequately write evaluations, memos, summaries, reports, or other modes of correspondence. Ability to speak clearly and concisely relating information, details, and procedures to layman.
