The County of Volusia is seeking a Planner I/II, dependent on qualifications, for the Planning and Development Services Division. This position is located in DeLand, Florida, and will be responsible for gathering, analyzing, and presenting planning, environmental, and socio-economic information used to develop public policy and/or to support the Planning Division. All candidates applying for this position must have excellent writing, presentation, and analytical skills; and the ability to communicate effectively with staff, applicants, and the public, as well as elected and appointed officials. The candidate must be able to meet deadlines and manage multiple assignments and projects. Candidates must have a practical knowledge of planning practices, urban design principles, subdivision, and zoning regulations. Excellent customer service is a must, in keeping with Volusia County's customer service standards.
NOTE: Candidates may submit at least two reports that he/she presented to a Planning Board or City/County Council or Commission at the time of application, or upon request.
- Assists in review of comprehensive plan and zoning applications including future land use amendments, rezonings, special exceptions, and variances.
- Reviews engineered site plans, subdivisions, architectural drawings, and building permits for compliance with county ordinances.
- Accurately documents case file activity in system of record.
- Interacts with the public daily to answer questions relating to the development of privately owned land.
- Conducts land use surveys and site inspections in the field.
- Interprets aerial photos, maps, and archival information needed to assemble planning studies.
- Initiates and completes research projects with a minimum of supervision.
- Assists in the drafting of regulations governing the use and development of land.
- Prepares written reports and presents planning information and data, graphically and orally, to elected officials, boards, citizens, and agencies.
- Assists in the organization and presentation of planning-related community workshops, surveys, and outreach programs.
- Assists other planners in preparing land use studies and formulating goals, objectives, and policies to implement those studies into the Comprehensive Plan.
- Attends training exercises related to the performance of duties.
- May be assigned to other office locations based on operational needs.
- Attends work on a continuous and regular basis.

- Provides technical planning assistance to the County Council and various boards.
- Organizes and presents planning-related community workshops, surveys, and outreach programs.
- Attends work on a continuous and regular basis.
- May be assigned to other county locations based upon operational needs.

Planner I
Salary: $24.49 – $34.53 Hourly
(4) years of experience in planning, geography, environmental science, engineering, architecture, history, public administration, political science, or related field.
OR
Bachelor's degree in planning, geography, environmental science, engineering, architecture, history, public administration, political science, or related field.
Planner II
Salary: 60,260.00 – $85,325.00 annually
