The County of Volusia is seeking a Senior Trades Worker - Electrician for the Library Services Division. Located in Daytona Beach, Florida, the position will be responsible for skilled journeyman level work requiring skill in performing tasks with little or no supervision. Candidates must have the ability to work in a team environment assisting other trades workers in areas such as plumbing, irrigation, carpentry, moving furniture, etc. Must be willing to respond to emergencies outside normal working hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Shift : 4 (10) hour days is an option for this position.

Duties vary depending on location / position of assignment .

  • May perform all levels of electrical repair, replacement, renovations, and new work to include lighting, switches, receptacles, motors, various types of conduits, etc.
  • May supervise small crews in assignments of basic construction and / or maintenance work.
  • May perform work found in the lower level trades worker classifications.
  • Attends work on a continuous and regular basis.
  • Responds to emergency situations.
  • Must adhere to Federal, State, County, and Local ordinances.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • High School diploma or GED and four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in maintenance and repair in electrical. Journeyman level experience in one or more of the skilled trades, i.e. : electrical. A comparable amount of education, training, or experience may be substituted for the minimum requirements.

  • Must possess a valid driver's license at time of appointment. Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license. CDL (level to be determined by division) may be required depending on position assignment.
  • All the knowledge of the lower level trades workers.
  • Skilled in performing advanced, complex work at the journeyman level in one or more of the building trades.
  • Ability to supervise and / or train unskilled / semi-skilled subordinate personnel.
  • Skilled in laying out jobs with cost and material estimates.
  • Ability to work overtime and on call as needed.
  • Ability to interact effectively with others.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Must have basic computer skills.
  • Must be able to relocate to other county locations based upon operational needs.

    Requirements vary depending on location / position of assignment.

    Physical Demands : Medium to heavy work. Ability to see (depth perception, color, acuity), hear, stand, walk, bend, stoop, reach overhead, climb, grasp, lift, carry, pull, push up to 50 lbs.

    Mental Demands : Ability to read and comprehend work orders, safety instructions, maps, blueprints, mechanical drawings, instructions, procedures, memos. Skilled in performing shop math. Skilled in writing simple sentences relaying information, data, and details to others.

    Environmental Demands : Inside and outside work. May require exposure to inclement weather (heat, humidity, cold, rain), hazardous conditions, chemicals, dust, confined spaces, and poor ventilation.
