What are the responsibilities and job description for the Trades Worker - Bridge Maintenance Group - Road and Bridge position at County of Volusia?
The County of Volusia is seeking a Trades Worker for the Road and Bridge Division. This position is located in Daytona Beach, Florida, and will be responsible for semi-skilled tasks in construction, modification and repair of bridges and transportation facilities under close supervision. This position may also be responsible for bascule bridge operation and machinery maintenance, concrete repairs, welding, guardrail installation and skid steer operations relating to infrastructure repair and maintenance. New employees, as a Trades Worker, will be provided an environment to develop and enhance these skills through on-the-job training. Candidate must have no fear of heights and must be able to swim.

- May install and repair guardrails and bridge related infrastructure.
- May perform mechanical maintenance on bascule bridge machinery.
- May perform bridge repairs (e.g., expansion joint material installation, deck sealing, scupper cleaning, graffiti removal, minor structural repairs, painting, etc.).
- May install and repair underground drainage piping, structures, and restoration.
- May perform concrete work (e.g., bridge decks, curbing, drainage structures, free form, etc.).
- May do grade shots for pipe and structure installation.
- May perform small engine repair and operate power and hydraulic hand tools.
- May act as crew leader in supervisor's absence.
- May perform work found in the Trades Worker classification.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- May be assigned to other county locations based upon operational needs.
- Attends work on a regular and consistent basis.
- Must adhere to Federal, State, County and Local ordinances.
- Responds to emergency situations and storm recovery operations.
High School diploma or possession of GED and two (2) years of experience in maintenance, mechanical repair, or construction experience in repair of concrete or brick work. Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license. Must obtain a Florida Class B CDL within 6 months of appointment. A comparable amount of education, training, or experience may be substituted for the minimum requirements.
The preferred candidate, having met minimum requirements, will have a Class B CDL license. Must have experience with construction equipment operation and familiarity with machinery room maintenance and equipment repair.

Environmental Demands: Inside and outside work. May require exposure to inclement weather (heat, humidity, cold, rain), hazardous conditions, chemicals, dust, confined spaces and poor ventilation.
