What You'll Be Doing
The EMS Assistant Chief of Community Outreach provides public messaging, education and community outreach to the residents and visitors to Wake County. The position is responsible for management of, including developing curriculums and material for, various programs and public outreach events as well as providing oversight to youth programs including EMS club, EMS Camp, EMS Cadets, etc. The position works with the Communication Office to establish and maintain relationships with media outlets and assist the department with media inquiries about the EMS system and requests for public information.
Essential Functions:
- Serve in a highly visible position in the community and must act with a high degree of courtesy, professionalism, respect, and always with the mission statement of prompt, compassionate, and clinically excellent care in mind
- Establish and maintain relationships with community leaders, including political, civic, faith based, and corporate, to evaluate and develop community outreach and public education programs based on alignment with shared goals, effectiveness and feasibility
- Coordinate the deployment of personnel and equipment for various community outreach and public education programs
- Collect data and develop reports to show effectiveness of public education and community outreach programs
- Schedule and run meetings and presentations
- Develop and oversees various community programs such as, EMS citizens academy and EMS Code Celebrate!
- Understand scene management and the Incident Command System
- Participate in various department specific committees regarding decisions on protocols, equipment, vehicles, uniforms, etc.

Wake County EMS is a cutting-edge emergency medical services system that is responsible for providing EMS services throughout Wake County and within each of the county’s 12 local municipalities. The Basics (Required Education and Experience)
- Associate's degree
- Five years of experience in the area of Emergency Medical Services, managing community engagement programs
- Valid Driver's License and "safe" driving record
- Equivalent education and experience are accepted
Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience)
- Five years of experience in the Wake County EMS System or five years of media experience in the central North Carolina market
- ICS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700 and 800

Hiring Range: $84,540 to $114,129

Emergency Service Worker Statement
