COUNTY OF WARREN
ACCOUNTING TECHNICIAN- I (Warren County Fire & Rescue)
GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK: FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Performs intermediate technical and clerical work involving the preparation and/or maintenance of fiscal or related records; does related work as required. Work is performed under regular supervision.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS:
Preparing and assisting with the maintenance of financial records; entering, verifying, and checking data; preparing financial reports; balancing accounts.

- Participates in the maintenance of numerous funds and accounts including planning, organizing, and participating in the reconciliation of all funds.
- Maintains complex accounting records in compliance with State and Federal regulations and will apply and submit 2-3 grants per year.
- Recommends and processes journal entries for Warren County Fire & Rescue, Volunteer and general ledger accounts.
- Reviews payroll reports for accuracy and uploads into the county financial system.
- Balances accounts with the trial balances monthly.
- Takes lead on gathering materials for the annual audit with supervision and the fiscal year close -out.
- Uploads p-card transactions to Warren County Fire & Rescue financial system monthly.
- Reconciles various statements to the Warren County Fire & Rescue financial system.
- Researches accounting issues and new accounting pronouncements, recommends actions to C100/C101/ Program Managers.
- Prepare a variety of reports and statistical information, including expenditure report.
- Maintains the Warren County Fire & Rescue inventory list.
- Reconciles county financial system to State and Federal reports for revenue received.
- Answers department inquiry into reconciling transactions to the general ledger.
- Records debt issuance, payments, and schedules, invoices for CPR, reimbursements to Warren County Fire & Rescue.
- Files and maintains invoices for accounts payable and receivable.
- Performs related tasks as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Thorough knowledge of accounting terminology, methods, procedures and equipment; general knowledge of standard office procedures, practices and equipment; through knowledge of computer systems and their application in a variety of office environments; preference for AS400 experience; proficient in Excel, reporting, general knowledge of accounting principles and related data processing equipment; ability to understand and follow oral and written directions; ability to establish and follow detailed work procedures; experience with applying and submitting grants, ability to post accounts and to perform mathematical computations with speed and accuracy; skill to use a variety of office machines and some typing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, vendors and the general public.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in accounting and some experience in public accounting or fund accounting.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This is sedentary work requiring the exertion of up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects; work requires fingering, grasping, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operation of machines, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is not subject to adverse environmental conditions.
