What are the responsibilities and job description for the YARD JOCKEY/DRIVER position at Courier Express Inc.?
Courier Express is currently looking for a full-time Yard Jockey/Maintenance Person who is reliable, responsible and has excellent communication skills to join our team at our in Springfield, MA. Our ideal applicants will provide prompt, courteous and professional delivery/pickup service to multiple facilities and will also contribute to our total commitment to the customer. This person will also assist with vehicle & building maintenance duties in and around our facility in eastern Springfield.
- This position will work no less than an 8-hour shift each day between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
- The expectation is for 40 or more hours each week.
- You may occasionally be asked to work on weekends.
- Starting pay will be $19.00 per hour, with a performance review and potential increase after 6 months of employment.
REQUIREMENTS
1 year or more of professionally driving a 26' BOX/STRAIGHT TRUCK in the past 5 years OR have graduated from a certified truck driving school
- Must have clear background and have clean driving record
- Drug screening, including testing for marijuana: ALL tested substances must come back NEGATIVE (Federal/DOT requirement)
- Must have a current DOT Medical Certificate/Card
- A CDL is a plus, but not required
- Must be able to maneuver trucks in tight positions
- Have reliable transportation for commuting and be on time when scheduled
- Adaptability and foresight to handle unexpected situations (traffic, weather conditions, etc.)
- Must have your own smart-device with hands-free capability and be proficient with such: phones, tablets, GPS, Bluetooth
- Physically be able to stand, bend, stoop, kneel, reach, twist, push, pull, climb, balance, crouch, handle and move/push/pull/lift items (sometimes large and irregularly shaped) weighing up to 70 lbs., (proper equipment is provided for assistance)
- Steel-toed boots will be needed
- Must meet all requirements of our insurance provider
- During snow events, the ability to come in early (between 2 and 5 a.m.) to assist with snow removal and to be able to drive a pick-up truck with a snowplow is a plus!
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Updating and maintaining vehicles
- Scheduling vehicle maintenance
- Complete local pickups and deliveries
- Clean, maintain and organize trucks and vans, as well as office, kitchen, restrooms, parking lot, building exterior and landscaping
- Communicating with our Dispatch & Safety teams
- Use of a lift-gates, pallet-jacks, load bars & straps
- Ability to follow detailed instructions which include delivery instructions, brokerage load instructions, accident procedures, ELD protocols,
- Follow all DOT regulations and all traffic laws
- Keep an accurate ELD logbook
