Overview:
Courier Newsroom’s State Social Marketing Strategists are the cross-functional brand managers of our state newsroom social accounts.They are responsible for developing and executing organic social strategies that elevate talent-driven content, promote Courier’s digital products, and engage new audiences across our state newsrooms. These strategists work across multiple teams and departments, ensuring that state social accounts are aligned with the overall Courier network and product streams while maintaining localized content and branding.
This role is equal parts social strategist, brand manager, and storyteller. You’ll be responsible for managing the state social content calendar, coordinating across the product, creative, marketing, underwriting, and event teams to ensure all social content aligns with our larger marketing and distribution goals. You’ll also work directly with talent to develop customized platform strategies, ensuring that social-first storytelling, audience engagement, and platform best practices are seamlessly integrated into our content. Above all, we are looking for mission-driven, politically aware strategists who understand how to use social media as a tool to inform, engage, and drive impact.
What You’ll Do
- Act as the brand manager for your state newsroom’s social presence, ensuring consistency in tone, voice, and visual identity across platforms
- Manage the state social content calendar, ensuring coordination between product, creative, marketing, underwriting, and event teams
- Analyze audience data and engagement metrics to refine content strategies and improve reach.
- Develop and execute localized social strategies that align with Courier’s talent-driven content model to achieve measurable audience growth engagement goals
- Collaborate directly with talent to shape and promote their digital products across social media to achieve measurable audience growth engagement goals
- Serve as in-house social experts to your state and other teams with a demonstrated ability to stay ahead of platform trends and develop innovative ways to amplify content across TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, and other relevant platforms
- Optimize social-first content for engagement, ensuring it resonates with local audiences and converts new followers into loyal readers
- Test new content formats and social media tactics to continuously improve performance and audience growth

- Deep cultural awareness—you stay tapped into trends, niche communities, and online conversations
