What are the responsibilities and job description for the Interim Chief Operations Officer position at Course?
We are looking for an Interim COO to step into an organization that connects early-stage companies with resources to scale locally and beyond. This role will immediately serve as a thought and strategic partner to the CEO and Board of Directors, shaping the operating and strategic direction of this organization. The Interim COO will have oversight for all aspects of the organization’s financial, branding and administrative functions, and external services. This role will participate in short-term and long-term planning that promote the realization of strategic objectives. We are looking for someone that wants to drive economic development impact in the State of Connecticut.
- Work across external stakeholders (government, academia, industry) to promote the organization’s mission and define collaboration opportunities
- Support fundraising efforts across Federal, State and Local public sources, corporate and university partnerships, foundations, and private philanthropy
- Develop and execute services to attract and retain early-stage companies and support commercialization expansion
- Oversight for financial strategy, budgeting, and capital planning
- Expand relationships with the investor community
Ideal Profile
- Prior experience driving private-public partnership
- Former Founder and/or Investor
- Fast-paced business experience, preferably in a business development capacity
- History of building long-term strategic plans and corresponding budgets
- Success in fundraising and/or convincing external stakeholders to financially support a mission-based organization
- Entrepreneurial approach, eager to build, create value, and solve problems
- Self-starter with a growth mindset who is comfortable with a minimal amount of direction
- Advanced written, verbal and interpersonal communications including expertise to interact successfully with a diverse array of external stakeholders
- The ability to communicate effectively in a full range of forums such as meetings, presentations, and written expression
