Primary function

  • Assess the medical needs of COVE clients and assist in the provision of proper medical care by performing the following duties.

Scope of work

The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position.

1. Provide health history and physicals under the supervision of the Medical Director for COVE clients.
2. Perform medical and psychiatric evaluations under Medical Director protocol.
3. Adhere to protocols established for the position
4. Screen clients for co-occurring disorders and refer to the psychiatric clinic as needed.
5. Prescribe medication consistent with practice/graduate education.
6. Transcribe physician's orders.
7. Screen clients for co-occurring disorders and refer to the psychiatric clinic.
8. Administer patient medication and observe patient health status.
9. Provide medical case management for patient visits to outside resources.
10. Provide intervention necessary to treat and further determine within the scope of training.
11. Triage patient medical complaints.
12. Prepare and maintain patient clinical and program records.
13. Participate in clinical staffings and team meetings.
14. Promote and encourage good communication with counseling staff to insure optimal holistic care of clients.
15. Arrange client HIV education, testing and counseling.
16. Conduct educational groups health related topics including co-occurring disorders.
17. Communicate with other medical personnel in case of emergencies.
18. Ensure the upkeep of Medications and Vaccinations for proper distribution
19. Obtain all patient medication and update patient medication sheet as needed.
20. Participate in a monthly rotation for on-call support of patients
21. Support patients at all Cove clinic and program locations
22. Submit reports as required.
23. Providing primary care to patients
24. Performing physical exams and patient observations.
25. Recording patients' medical histories and symptoms.
26. Ordering, administering, and analyzing diagnostic tests.
27. Diagnosing health issues.
28. Administering medicine and other treatments.
29. Communicating test results to patients and their families
30. Monitoring, Operating and maintaining medical equipment
31. Creating patient care plans and contributing to existing ones.
32. Detecting changes in patients' health and modifying treatment plans, as needed.
33. Consulting with healthcare professionals and families.
34. Training patients and their families to manage and prevent illness and injury.

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

    • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from clients and staff. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, and volume. Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to perform CPR and other First Aid procedures.
    • The ideal candidate for this position should possess strong written and verbal communication skills, coupled with exceptional listening abilities. Organizational and time management skills are essential, along with a demonstrated aptitude for teamwork. Empathy and compassion towards patients are paramount, as is the ability to thrive under pressure and during extended work hours. Candidates should be adept at providing primary care, including conducting initial examinations, performing physical assessments, and closely monitoring patient health. Additionally, proficiency in setting up and overseeing medical equipment to ensure accurate measurements and efficient patient care is required. Diagnostic expertise is essential, involving the ordering and administration of necessary tests, such as lab work and X-rays, and effectively communicating results to patients and their families. Patient interaction and education are integral components of the role, encompassing the gathering and documentation of medical histories and engaging in discussions about healthy lifestyle choices tailored to individual needs. Collaborative skills are crucial, involving coordination with healthcare professionals to maintain updated medical records and close collaboration with physicians and specialists to ensure comprehensive patient care.

Vision abilities required include close, distance, color peripheral and the ability to adjust focus.
