This position is for the full academic year open only to enrolled upperclassmen. Freshmen are not eligible for this position.

Expected hours of work per week : 10-15

Work Location & Hours : KG-115; Mon- Fri; 8am-4 : 30pm

Purpose

To assist in the process of making library and Covenant College Archive materials available to the Covenant community.

Qualifications for Position :

  • Personable, willing to learn new skills, punctual
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, including Word and Excel
  • Basic knowledge of Windows operating system
  • Basic knowledge of Gmail, Google Sheets, Google Docs, and Google Drive
  • Basic knowledge of Adobe Reader
  • Able to work well independently
  • Able to handle sensitive information
  • Able to organize files, both manually and electronically
  • Able to sit for long periods of time
  • Able to climb on step stools
  • Able to lift 25 lbs.

Expected Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Assist in book processing
  • Perform clerical acquisition duties
  • Perform clerical interlibrary loan duties
  • Deliver and retrieve mail from the mailroom
  • Organize archival materials
  • Digitize archival materials
  • Check digitized archival materials
  • Represent the College well when interacting with patrons
  • Fulfill all other duties assigned by the Associate Director of Library Services.
  • Resume skills development (NACE Competencies required by employers)

  • Career & Self-Development including willingness to learn new skills used in library and archives work
  • Communication in the form of carefully listening to instructions and asking questions when needed for clarification
  • Critical Thinking in the form of applying consistency in guidelines for book processing and archives checking
  • Global Literacy displayed by working with students and staff that have various points of view that may differ from your own
  • Leadership through sharing ideas with your supervisor that could improve work processes
  • Professionalism by representing the College well when interacting with patrons and handling sensitive archive information
  • Teamwork including building good working relationships with all the staff and student workers in the library
  • Technology by learning best practices for utilizing software such as Microsoft, Google, Windows, and Adobe software as well as hardware, such as photocopiers and document scanners

  • Work Environment

    This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers and phones. Students will be trained and develop skills in professional office behavior as well as developing competencies with computer programs listed in the job qualifications.
