What are the responsibilities and job description for the DIRECTOR PHARMACY position at Covenant Health?
Position Specific Competencies:
- Maintains appropriate working relationships with managers across the organization.
- Identifies, develops and utilizes the necessary relationships with internal and external key stakeholders to maximize the success of the pharmacy initiatives.
- Demonstrates the ability to foster teamwork and take responsibility to ensure the delivery of high-quality care and service to both patients and staff.
- Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with key hospital leaders, medical staff members, and other patient care leaders to ensure the safety, effectiveness, and quality of Pharmacy services.
- Ensures the financial performance of the departments are within approved capital and operating budgets, including the development of annual budgets, monitoring and managing department revenues and expenses.
- Develops and maintains a Formulary, as well as enforce inventory control, so as to meet all patient needs and efficient utilization of institutional resources
- Identifies, develops, implements and revises as needed physical facility, equipment, information systems, and/or other non-personnel needs to effectively support medication use systems and pharmacy services and programs.
- Ensures compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements including, but not limited to the Food and Drug Administration, The DNV regulations, and State Board of Pharmacy.
- Identify and implement the use of appropriate metrics consistently across the institutions to measure quality outcomes that will allow the development of performance improvement activities to improve those designated quality outcomes.
- Plans and coordinates the activities of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee.
- Work with the Covenant Antibiotics Stewardship Committee and function as the Lead Pharmacist locally to implement antibiotic stewardship priorities and practices.
- Promotes a Culture of Safety and safe medication management practices across the institution.
- Confirms that hospital employs sufficient number of pharmacy personnel with the appropriate education, licensing and either experience or training to provide appropriate medication management and performance of all other pharmacy personnel job functions and activities as defined by departmental and organizational policies, regulatory board or agency rules, regulations and statutes, and accreditation and professional organization standards.
- Represents the pharmacy inside/outside the organization in relevant internal and external committees and forums.
- Adheres to policy, procedures and plans that are in place to prevent workplace injury, violence or adverse outcome to associates and patients.
- Coordinates the flow of information and communication throughout the pharmacy to ensure the appropriate individuals are involved in all matters.
- Promotes the Education and Research programs of the organization, including undergraduate pharmacy programs and investigational protocols.
- Continually monitors the healthcare environment and landscape to identify future growth and business expansion opportunities within the pharmacy to enhance revenue, provide the highest quality care for our patients and/or maximize operational efficiencies.
- Maximizes the use automation and technology to provide safe, optimal patient care and/or improve operational efficiencies and support a high performing pharmacy.
- Expands and optimizes pharmacy expertise in areas throughout the patient experience to provide the highest quality patient care.
- If there is a need may function in the various staff roles within the department to help cover.
