Senior Network Technician, IT Network Services

Position Summary:
Reporting to the IT Network Group Manager, under minimal supervision, the Senior Network Technician will be responsible for identifying and diagnosing complex issues affecting network performance. Senior Network Technician must be able to provide guidance and leadership to less experienced staff. Must be able to work resourcefully under limited supervision by providing quality support to internal and external customers over the phone, email, and in person.

Responsibilities
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of configuration, installing and maintaining/troubleshooting all aspects of the data network, while having the ability to plan for those repairs as well as direct others in all phases.
- Conducts tests and analyzes all elements of the network to determine corrective action plans while directing other network teams throughout the process.
- Excellent communication skills in order to interface with other IT groups, internal teams, vendor support service groups and management to identify and resolve issues to ensure proper escalation during outages or degraded network systems performance. Be able to work with engineers to contribute in the planning of corrective measures.
- Provides exceptional troubleshooting skills of LAN / WAN wired and wireless connectivity issues, providing guidance to less experienced network group team members for resolving problems.
- Communicates and works cohesively with IT Technical Services Project Managers in all aspects of facility projects as well as ask appropriate level questions and gather information for network group discussion of proper resolution, while completing tasks on time and under budget.
- Provides detailed documentation using Visio, Word and Excel.
- Monitors network performance by utilizing preventive maintenance measures to ensure a stable and reliable network while planning for corrective actions.
- Works directly with engineers in order to gain knowledge.
- Thorough knowledge of switch configurations such as VLANs, routing, and non-vendor specific protocols, required to be a reliable resource for other network group team members to ensure configuration changes meet group standards.
- Provides exceptional problem solving skills to meet the customer needs. Works thoroughly from beginning to end to find a resolution to problems as well as works with other network group team members with different skillsets in order gain understanding and knowledge.
- Ability to work directly with network engineers and less experienced team members in providing resolution to complex network issues and task assigned, while providing onsite support in order to plan for repairs.
- Responsible for providing direction and training for less-experienced team members, rather in a group or one on one sessions for new or current staff members to ensure group standards are being followed.
- Local travel required.
- Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards. Completes required education assignments annually. Works toward achieving goals and objectives, and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested.

Qualifications
Minimum Education:
Bachelor’s degree in related field or five (5) years equivalent work experience.
Minimum Experience:
Five (5) years of experience in troubleshooting multi-campus complex data networks consisting of wired and wireless. Extensive knowledge and experience with VLANs, routing and non-vendor specific protocols. Thorough knowledge of network monitoring tools. Preference may be given to individuals who currently hold certifications such as, CCNA, CompTIA Network , and CompTIA A .
Licensure Requirement:
Must have and maintain a valid Tennessee driver’s license Class D and state mandated minimum insurance coverage. Driving record must meet Covenant Health minimum standards at the date of hire and throughout employment tenure.
