Overview:

The Laboratory Clinical Coordinator assists the Lab Manager in the overall operations and technical activities of the laboratory for all shifts, seven days/week. Under the direction of the Lab Manager, the Laboratory Clinical Coordinator is expected to actively participate in the selection/hiring of new employees, assist with assigned employee evaluations and corrective actions, organize, and direct section workflow, and assist with bench duties as required. The Laboratory Clinical Coordinator must stay current with new technology, developments and procedures and is also expected to contribute to the budget, planning and compliance processes. While performing the above duties, the Lab Manager expects the Laboratory Coordinator to exercise reasonable and independent judgment in addressing problems and issues.

Responsibilities:
  • Assists in budget planning and monitoring
  • Coaches, mentors, encourages, and motivates employees. Promotes teamwork
  • Works collaboratively with the Educational Specialist to arrange orientation of new and transferred employees into the Laboratory.
  • Works effectively with other departments. Serves as a resource for customers, physicians, nurses, and staff.
  • Drive innovation, through workflow processes, evaluations of technology, and any other mechanism to help improve patient outcomes and laboratory results.
  • Assists the manager with hiring, evaluations, and corrective action.
  • Responsible for the corrective action process as it relates to Step I and Step II documentation and meetings.
  • Performs time and attendance tracking and payroll documentation.
  • Takes independent action to resolve problems, employee, and customer complaints.
  • Monitors workflow patterns and suggests changes to improve service. Ensures appropriate scheduling.
  • Assists in establishing and documenting competencies.
  • Monitors, directs, and oversees assigned technical activities of the lab. Ensures specific procedures are in place and are reviewed on a regular basis.
  • Recommends, develops, and implements new procedures and technology.
  • Instructs staff, trains new employees where appropriate. Ensures effective technical operation and communication to all shifts and sites.
  • Ensures appropriate quality control and quality assurance and takes any necessary corrective action.
  • Ensures all CAP surveys are performed appropriately and results submitted within timelines. Takes necessary corrective action when appropriate.
  • Assist Lab Manager with their responsibilities/duties when necessary, including in the absence of the Laboratory Manager.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

  • MT/MLS (ASCP) with bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Preferred 3-5 years leadership experience.
  • Candidate must not be in corrective action, and otherwise in good standing.

Knowledge/Skills:

  • Technical knowledge, skills and abilities related to all areas of the clinical laboratory.
  • Advanced PC computer skills including MS Word, Excel.
  • LIS applications (i.e. Beaker and databases)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Team building
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects concurrently
  • To meet/exceed timelines/deadlines consistently
  • To utilize independent judgment and work autonomously
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude in the workplace showing dependability, cooperation, and desire to produce the most accurate, timely, and cost-effective results attainable.
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA, PMLA and other federal, state, and local standards

Working Conditions/Physical Demands:

  • Constant near vision
  • Frequent walking, handling, talking, hearing, near and midrange vision, depth perception, color vision
  • Occasional standing, lifting, carrying, pushing, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, squatting, crawling, twisting, reaching, far vision
  • Frequent lifting up to 10 pounds
  • Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.
