Summary:
The Maintenance Engineer I (ME I) maintains all types of equipment to ensure proper working condition by performing preventative maintenance, major and minor repairs with proper diagnosis and safety considerations. This person completes work according to high standards of quality and workmanship maintaining proper CMMS documentation. Work is completed properly with little direct supervision. The Maintenance Engineer I must demonstrate a basic working knowledge of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, digital control systems, variable drive technology and building automation systems operations.

Must be able to read and understand control drawings, blueprints, equipment manuals & troubleshooting guides. Must be able to navigate and utilize the internet for research, material purchasing and determination of code requirements.

The Maintenance Engineer I may be the primary Facilities Services first responder to any and all manner of equipment catastrophic failure, disaster, safety incident, utilities disruption, critical service failure or similar emergency. In this role, the ME I may be responsible for making and implementing critical decisions & accurately communicating with Administration, contractors, vendors, regulatory agencies, etc.

The Maintenance Engineer I demonstrates excellent customer service performance in that his/her attitude and actions are at all times consistent with the standards contained in the Vision, Mission and Values of Covenant HealthCare and the commitment to Extraordinary Care for Every Generation.

Responsibilities:
Performs preventative maintenance on all facility equipment by conducting equipment room tours to monitor, adjust/repair, and troubleshoot as required and as outlined in the TMS system.
Utilize and maintain computerized preventative maintenance system.
Responds to maintenance calls, work orders, and corrective work orders.
Communicates and conveys information status to end-users.
Maintains a clean and presentable work area while following all safety precautions.
May be assigned to orient/train Department and/or new employees, aid in development of Dept. “Managing the Mandatories” program, provide data base entries to expand CMMS capabilities, coordinate systems shutdowns, etc.
Duties as assigned.
Completes a variety of project work as assigned and demonstrates initiative appropriately prioritizing projects and/or duties to ensure the highest possible customer satisfaction.
Coordinates projects with vendors, contractors and regulatory agencies ( Technology suppliers, Fire Marshal, Electrical, Mechanical, & Plumbing Contractors, Architects/Engineers, etc.)

Other information:

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma or equivalent

City of Saginaw Boiler Operator License preferred
Licensure in plumbing, electrical, HVAC fields preferred
3-5 years experience in related field required
3-5 years previous hospital experience preferred
Proof of competency/training commensurate with prerequisites for MM listed below

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
Broad knowledge of maintenance and service of systems, controls, computers, safety devices and procedures.
Working knowledge of plumbing, domestic water, steam lines, electric motor starters, circuits, computer support systems, refrigeration units, floors, tiles, and doors
Broad knowledge of carpentry repair, minor construction, demolition and other remodeling/renovation work.
High degree of mechanical skills in a service related background.
Excellent organizational and prioritization skills
Demonstrated skills in basic carpentry, minor construction, demolition and other remodeling/renovation work.
Ability to understand, and operate appropriately, all building systems to ensure a safe comfortable environment: must be proficient in operating building automation, utilities, life safety, and environmental support systems.
Ability to respond, act & communicate effectively in emergencies
Able to comprehend and use multiple software programs
including Microsoft Word and Excel
Ability to interpret drawings, diagrams, and written instructions along with P.C. based interface devices.
Ability to demonstrate proficiency in reading i.e. manuals, work orders, P.M.s, etc. and communicate (verbal and written) in a concise and accurate manner.
Ability to perform diagnostic functions of various P.C. based systems
Must be fit tested with the appropriate respiratory mask to work around environments like AFB/Asbestos. Facial hair that interferes with the fit test and wearing of such protective devices will not be allowed.
Valid Michigan Driver’s License and the ability to be insured by Covenant’s insurance carrier.
