Overview: The Material Resource Utilization Specialist demonstrates excellent customer service performance in that his/her attitude and actions are at all times consistent with the standards contained in the Vision, Mission and Values of Covenant HealthCare and the commitment to Extraordinary Care for Every Generation. This individual is responsible for product utilization tracking, product ordering, inventory oversight and vendor relations for their assigned area(s). Must have exceptional organizational skills. Responsibilities: Contributes to organization success targets for net operating margin.

Establishes and maintains relationships with sales and clinical representatives to ensure that appropriate decisions are made regarding the purchase and application of equipment and supplies.
Responsible for best pricing practice for high quality materials for existing contracts.
Will organize procurement for annual capital expenditures in assigned area(s).
Works as a customer service contact for units and assists with communicating changes to affected departments.
Interacts with Finance Department to reconcile invoice and accounting discrepancies.
Follows purchasing procedure as outlined by Covenant HealthCare including preparation of purchase requisitions and/or purchase orders, coordination of transportation and delivery of supplies and parts to the appropriate destination.
Become the recognized expert in assigned specialty area(s).
Keep current when new products are introduced.
Participate in the annual inventory of assigned area(s).
Supports decision maker in assigned specialty area(s) by monitoring new trends, products and procedures.
Serve on hospital committees and work on special projects as appointed by Manager or Director.
Participate on Value Analysis Committee as assigned by Director. Identify products for standardization and contract utilization.
Responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating projects which enhance the material resource utilization and cost/outcome position of assigned departments and Covenant in general.
Adheres to and promotes corporate compliance procedures and policies.
Oversees new product assessment and trials. Responsible for presentation of findings, conclusions, and recommendations relative to material resource issues to clinicians and department management as appropriate.
Responsible for timely, accurate, comprehensive data analysis and interpretation related to material resource utilization, practice patterns, product/equipment quality, supply costs, availability, etc.
Provide and assist in training and education for product ordering and tracking using multiple in-house and vendor supplied systems.
Other duties as assigned or requested.
Qualifications: EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Associates Degree or years of commensurate experience to perform all aspects of the job.
Two to four years in procurement of goods and services preferred.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
Software programs, with an emphasis on a mainframe inventory system. Prudent purchasing practices.
Strong analytical skills are required to address system problems, to gather and interpret financial data, and to prepare clear, concise management reports that alert department management to opportunities and propose appropriate action plans.
Demonstrated sound judgment in difficult/sensitive situations.
