Position Summary

This Information Technology (IT) Manager is responsible to manage a comprehensive agency-wide information technology program to ensure ongoing effective and efficient use of computer technology and information systems. Develops and implements strategic plans for information systems. Conceptualizes, evaluates, and implements information technology strategies, plans, and priorities for a comprehensive agency-wide information technology program. 

 

Essential Functions

  • Lead the Information Technology function on behalf of Covenant House Alaska, including hardware, software, AV systems, phones, and security (badge/camera) systems.
  • Works with appropriate department heads to establish the procedures necessary for the IT Department to support the organization, including on and offboarding, security, training, updates, patches, and change management.
  • Sets standards for hardware, software and services, such as the basic configuration for a new user’s computer.
  • Executes and extends IT strategy, including creation of project plans, time schedules, equipment and cost estimates for short- medium- and long-term application. Maintains Agency 3 Year IT Roadmap.
  • Develop and maintains Covenant House Alaska’s IT network architecture.
  • Ensures all technology systems and hardware are up to date.
  • Ensures necessary software updates, advanced troubleshooting, security, compatibility testing, programming, implementation and system integration, and cyber-security.
  • Develops, maintains and implements information technology policies, guidelines and best practices.
  • Serving as the primary liaison with agency IT vendors and contractors.
  • Set and manage Agency hardware replacement schedule within the allotted budget.
  • Provides verbal and written recommendations for plans and budgets based on assessed needs and strategic plans.
  • Ensures information security within all IT and mobile communications related activities.
  • Provides appropriate business process support through usage of CHA´s IT systems.
  • Provides computer hardware, training, support and troubleshooting to staff as needed.
  • Provides coordinating and scheduling training for all staff in the use of technology, either creating the training materials or working with training consultants.
  • Oversees network administration, backup and security protocols.
  • In preparation for an emergency, oversees the development of a business continuity plan and disaster recovery strategy in coordination with the Agency’s Emergency Action Plan.
  • Provides oversight to IT intern, as needed.
  • Provides Level 1 Helpdesk support, as needed.
  • Keep supervisor fully always informed.

 

 

 

Intern Supervision

  • Interview, train, and directly supervise IT Interns
  • Prioritize and assign tasks to meet goals and objectives of IT related infrastructure
  • Promote personal and professional growth among interns by conducting supervisions and providing on-going feedback to foster community engagement and development.

Budget Management

  • Under the direction of the COO participate in the budgeting process as needed.
  • Manage requisition of needed supplies for IT related functions.
  • Oversee and review the budget through reporting with the COO

 

Administrative

  • Support special programs/events regarding technological needs.
  • Participate in committees and facilitate meetings for the purpose of identifying appropriate actions and developing recommendations in support technological needs of the Agency.
  • Participate in program policies and procedures review and development.
  • Attend Management Meetings in the absence of the Program Director

 

 

Minimum Education

Bachelor’s degree in Business, with emphasis in Information Technology, or a related field is preferred. Experience can substitute for post-secondary education on a year-for-year basis.

 

Minimum Experience

Progressive experience working with advanced level information technology systems for 3-5 years or equivalent is preferred.  Live experience considered an asset.

  • Understand and comply with all Agency policies and procedures, including Child Protection Policies.
  • Is approachable, relatable, builds rapport well, and practices active listening with individuals of varied cultural backgrounds, embracing differences in behavior and lifestyle choices.
  • Can maintain confidentiality while understanding and complying with requirements of mandated reporting, duty to warn, HIPAA, and other limits to confidentiality.
  • Ability to assess a situation, analyze the relevant data and consider the risks involved before signing off on a purchase or an action.
  • Ability to negotiate with management and vendors.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fluid environment.
  • Well-built time management skills.
  • Well-developed verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient with standard computer operating systems.  Ability to navigate Microsoft Office Suite, online databases, and other programs and websites as required.
  • Proficient with IT best practices, and ability to implement them within the infrastructure
  • Willingness and ability to work outside of normal business hours as well as Holidays and weekends as needed.
  • Able to accommodate a wide range of physical activity, including but not limited to walking long distances, moving up and down the stairs, lifting bags or boxes up to 50 pounds, driving a minivan, and physically assist youth if needed.
  • Possess a current and valid Driver’s License.
  • Have a good driving record.
  • Pass federal, state, and local background check investigations.

 

Working Conditions

  • Position works in an office setting and within the YEC, but at times will be working within other administrative and program-based environments.
  • Noise level is mild to moderate, consistent with office and residential environments.
  • Must have the ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand.
  • Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations
  • Must have the ability to observe details within close range.
  • Must be able to remain in stationary position for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to move within the office to access files and office equipment.
  • Consistently operates a computer and related office machinery.
  • Occasionally moves items up to 40 pounds while ascending/descending stairways.
